Bas Rutten spoke with defending EliteXC lightweight champion, KJ Noons tonight on Inside MMA. Noons got a chance to discuss his win over Yves Edwards, but more importantly, he had the chance to talk about his somewhat staged scuffle with Nick and Nate Diaz after his win over Edwards during the recent EliteXC “Return of the King” event on June 14th.
Noons and Diaz fought last November in a fight that stirred a lot of controversy between Diaz fans and the rest of the world with the doctor stoppage which enraged the Cesar Gracie fighter. The fight was stopped after the first round due to a cut on Diaz’s face that was pouring blood after a round that Noons had easily won. Apparently Diaz had a lot of weak scar tissue on his face which he has since corrected with surgery, but it was not enough to keep the fight going. He still wants a rematch, however.
Noons made it clear that Diaz, who came in 9 pounds overweight during his fight on the “Return of the King” card with Muhsin Corbbrey, was not worth another rematch even if the fans wanted it. The Hawaiian lightweight champ went on to talk about moving on to other fighters who deserve a shot at the title. He add insult to injury, he also showed a picture of Diaz’s bloody face and explained that only after five minutes, Diaz didn’t have a chance.
After everything that happened in the cage between the two fighters, Noons has the last, but not the final word.
