Tapout Clothing Line SOLD!
By Curtis Clontz on Sep 07, 2010
The Tapout clothing brand has been a huge part of the MMA community for longer than the average fighter. The line has became synonymous for this rare type of athlete and has since produced a wildfire of sales other companies would kill for.
It appears that the line no longer belongs to Punkass and Skyscrape, it now belongs to Jamie Salter. Salter has huge plans for the brand and is taking a surprising step to continue to increase the sales and growth of Tapout. One that may surprise you.
The Tapout website states “Life is full of influences”, these influences are a part of the business model in which Salter will employ.
The owner of Linens ‘n Things INC, Polaroid, and a plethora of other well known businesses, will look to push the Tapout brand to children.
While kids are already being seen wearing the clothing, he is taking it a step further by adding Tapout into school supplies. At first thought you may laugh, but this could prove to be genius.
The creation of bindersand school supplies may sound extremely minor but by stepping into the school system, his new brand will be seen by many that have never heard of it. Add that to the children who will want one just because it looks cool, and you are hitting a huge untapped audience.
Tapout isn’t the only brand name in this deal. Salter also purchased Silver Star Casting Company, and Hitman Fight Gear.
This deal puts these brands in the hands of a well known, respected, and intelligent business man who is looking to not only continue the growth, but to vastly increase sales.
Tapout in some manner is already being sold in Walmart, Sears, K Mart and many other popular stores. This deal has already opened up the bidding war as many other department stores and chains are chomping at the bit to get their hands on this gear.
The deal may change things behind closed doors, but the faces that you are used to seeing will still play an integral part of the business. Punkass and Skyscrape agreed to terms in part because of their ability to continue to be involved in “their baby”.
More about this deal will be available in the future. The most common question will be how much did it cost. The dollars and cents are still not public knowledge.
