MMA Junkie has learned ,from sources close to the Bellator promotion, that Eddie Alvarez will take on UFC veteran Josh Neer. The “Super Fight, which will be contested at 160 pounds, is scheduled to take place in May.
“In addition to being one of the top lightweights on earth, Eddie’s a blast to watch fight,” Bellator founder and CEO Bjorn Rebney stated in today’s release. “Alvarez vs. Neer should produce fireworks from the start. Our hyper-competitive tournaments, May Super Fights and September title-defense fights will all create some awesome nationally televised events.”
Alvarez (19-2) went the entire year of 2009 without a loss. He is currently on a 4-fight wince streak and last tasted defeat in a December 2008 submission loss to Shinya Aoki.
Neer has two victories, since being cut from the UFC in October.
