Strikeforce: Miami Payroll
By Josh Stein on Feb 03, 2010
MMAJunkie released the payouts for Strikeforce’s card in Miami over the weekend. The results are interesting, though who’s making the most money isn’t surprising.
Note Herschel Walker’s payout. Walker donated his winnings to charity, which is a story in and of itself (since it shows that Walker isn’t in the game because he’s hurting for money).
Nick Diaz: $100,000 (no win bonus) def. Marius Zaromskis: $30,000
Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos: $35,000 ($15,000 win bonus and $5,000 “championship” bonus) def. Marloes Coenen: $2,000
Herschel Walker: $600 (no win bonus) def. Greg Nagy: $5,000
Robbie Lawler: $100,000 (no win bonus) def. Melvin Manhoef: $5,000
Bobby Lashley: $50,000 (no win bonus) def. Wes Sims: $25,000
Jay Hieron: $65,000 ($35,000 win bonus) def. Joe Riggs: $30,000
Micahel Byrnes: $2,000 ($1,000 win bonus) def. David Zitnik: $1,500
Joe Ray: $1,500 ($500 win bonus) def. John Clarke: $1,000
David Gomez: $2,000 ($1,000 win bonus) def. Craig Oxley: $1,500
Pablo Alfonso: $3,000 ($1,500 win bonus) def. Marcos DaMatta: $2,500
Hayder Hassan: $2,000 ($1,000 win bonus) def. Ryan Keenan: $2,000
John Kelly: $2,000 ($1,000 win bonus) def. Sabah Homasi: $1,000
The discrepancy between the top of the card and the bottom is pretty typical. Of course, the fact that the female titleholder is making less than Jay Hieron is interesting, and I’m sure there are some interesting contract negotiation backstories. Still, it was a solid event and the payouts reflect the more exciting fighters (and, for the most part, the better fighters) pulling in the big money.

Walker is a generous and smart man. Donating your winnings to charity is one way to get a lot of people to support you in the sport.
He actually gave something like 6 figures to charity right? Great to see diaz getting 6 figures.
I think so. I don’t have an exact number, but the contract was a high five figures and if there was a win bonus involved, then it’s probably six figures.
I don’t know the specifics of his contract, though.
Apparently they always pay foreign fighters way less officially. Something about taxes.
Yeah, I don’t know how Zaromskis contract works, because he’s still signed to Dream. So his actual payout may have been higher.
SF pays Dream, then Dream pays him. No taxes for that part of it.
Its after seeing these figures that I am glad I am not an MMA fighter just a fan! Coenen $2000 for a championship fight? Manhoeff makes $5000? I know backstage handouts and such but come on! My old BJJ instructor was often asked to fight, he did it once won the fight, made a few hundred and was out of work for over two weeks. Sure if you can make it to the top the money is there, but not always obviously.
