UFC 107 facts and thoughts

How’d you like Alan Belcher’s pink shorts last night? He just had a baby girl that he and his wife were expecting to be born in January, 2010. Belcher stopped Wilson Gouveia last night and said he’s looking ahead.
Stefan Struve needed to have a tooth pulled from his mouthguard after the second round of his fight with Paul Buentello. Struve was knocked down hard in the round, but ultimately won the fight via decision.
Who’s next for Jon Fitch? Some people thought that his opponent, Mike Pierce, won their fight last night after that dominating third round barrage.
No matter what happens, Clay Guida is one of the most enthusiastic fighters in the UFC. Lots of other organizations would love to have someone like him if the UFC decides to ever let him go.
Frank Mir backed up all of the trash talk with a quick submission win over Cheick Kongo last night. Mir was the favorite, but I don’t think anyone expected the fight to end that quickly. Mir sent Kongo flying, literally, with one of the biggest shots we’ve seen since Brock Lesnar sent Heath Herring back over his own head. Mir wants Lesnar next, but what about Shane Carwin? I see Mir vs. Carwin for the belt unless Lesnar can get healthy soon.
Who’s next for BJ Penn now? He landed 150 shots last night, many of those being counter punches, while Diego Sanchez landed only 8. Georges St. Pierre is only getting better over time, so a trip up to 170 might be a waste of his time. Time to go back to Japan, retire, or just wait for someone else new to step up? Frankie Edgar has been looking pretty good lately. And what about Diego Sanchez? He’ll be a gatekeeper in the lightweight division if he continues to fight with such heart and determination.

BJ Penn has a better shot at GSP than Fitch does. I think you will see BJ fight someone at 170 and if that goes well another shot at GSP.
Diego will be fighting Florian next and if he looses will be back at 170. And I am going on the record stating Diego will loose to Florian.
Mir looked the most impressive of all of them. To knock down Kongo like that was more impressive than choking him out which everyone knew he could do it. Also he gained muscle and power and I think a rematch with Lesnar may work a little bit different.
All in all not a bad card, and well aside from BJ’s sparring match it was pretty well done.

GSP vs. Spider… would love to see that…
