Weekly Women’s MMA Wrap-Up

By Yael Grauer on Dec 10, 2009

WAMMA RANKINGS

The new WAMMA rankings are out for December. Tara LaRosa (18-1) is now being ranked in the Super Flyweight division, coming in at #4. (Jeri Sitzes [3-1], previously in 10th place, is no longer on the list). LaRosa is no longer being ranked in the Bantamweight Division, putting Sarah Kaufman (10-0) in 1st place. Tonya Evinger (7-3) was removed from the weight class due to inactivity. This made room for Alexis Davis (7-2) and Miesha Tate (7-2) to move into the 9th and 10th slots.

WOMEN’S GRAPPLING CAMP

The 3rd Annual Women’s Grappling Camp will be taking place at Big John McCarthy’s Ultimate Training Academy in Valencia, California on January 25th through 29th. The camp will be led by grappling superstar Felicia Oh and assistant instructors Valerie Worthington and Emily Kwok (with guest instructors Krista Scott-Dixon and Lily Pagle). Lectures, demonstrations, discussions and gi and no-gi training for all fitness and experience levels will be available. The camp, which is open to all women, can be attended for three days or five days. Participants signing up to participate at the Gracie US Nations, taking place two days prior to the conference, will receive a discounted rate.

FIGHT RESULTS

In the sole pro MMA fight last week, Julianna Pena (2-0) beat Stephanie Webber (0-1) by 2nd round armbar at CageSport MMA Emerald Queen Casino. There were a couple of amateur MMA fights, also–Jessica Eye beat Marie Colangelo for the NAAFS National Amateur Women’s Championship in Ohio and Ashley Cummings beat Brittney Marshall for the “Battle at the Blue Note” Lightweight Championship in Missouri.

UPCOMING FIGHTS

In a fight I am desperately hoping to attend, Shana Olsen (1-0) will be taking on Kaitlin Young (4-2) at Ironman MMA.

Vanessa Porto (10-3) will be fighting Amanda Nunes (2-1) at Samurai Fight Combat 2: Warriors Return.

Anna Barone and Josee Aupry will both be making their debuts at Wreck MMA: Fights for the Troops.

And Jewels – 6th Ring will feature 9 MMA bouts:

Sally Krumdiack (7-4) vs Saori Ishioka (7-2)
Alexandra Sanchez (3-1) vs Tomoko Morii (1-1)
Mika Nagano (4-2) vs Yuko Kagoshima (1-0)
