UFC 105 Preview and Prediction: Swick vs. Hardy
By Curtis Clontz on Nov 13, 2009
In the UFC there are two British fighters that seem to grab all of the headlines. Dan Hardy and Michael Bisping are arguably the two best British fighters in the premier MMA organization in the world. If the UFC is going to expand overseas they need these fighters to do well. Doing well is exactly what Dan Hardy has been doing lately, and he is hoping he continuous this against Mike Swick.
This fight will decide the next person to get a title shot. Funny that not many believe that either fighter is a legit #1 contender. Bryan may be one of them, check out his opinion…
Mike “Quick” Swick is known for throwing punches in bunches. His constant pressure wears down his opponents. Mike is a true veteran of the UFC, the TUF 1 alumn is looking to be the next from that class to make a title run. He has won four straight fights and five will more than likely get him a title shot. The numbers say he deserves it. He has only lost twice in the UFC and has seemingly paid his dues.
Dan Hardy could be known as the Chad Ocho Cinco of the UFC. He is a charismatic athlete that tries to take his challenger out of their game, but playing mind games of his own. Hardy is still fairly new to the UFC with three fights and a tenure that lasts just over a year. Hardy will look to return the pressure of Swick and enforce his will for three solid rounds.
Prediction:
This very well could be the fight of the night. Both athletes will look to push the other and eventually break their will. If it goes to the ground expect Joe Rogan to lean toward Kang since he is Eddie Bravo trained. That being said, I like Swick in this fight. For no reason other than their backgrounds. Swick has fought better fighters, had a long UFC career, and will be ready to go. Hardy has had a good career but hasn’t fought the same kind of competition. Swick will not be able to finish Hardy, but he will be able to do enough to ge the decision win.

You know I have said Swick does not deserve a title shot if he wins, but I have changed my mind. I call this the “Diego Symptom” because I am tired of people saying Sanchez deserves a title shot. If he does then Brock’s is legit and so is Swick’s! As a matter of fact Swick’s is more legitimate because he has won 4 fights in his new division while Diego has won 2. Furthermore, Swick has finished fights, Diego had trouble with both of his.
But since the welterweight division is relatively weak right now and they need a fight for GSP (who will not step up to Silva), then right now Swick or Hardy are the best options. If Hardy wins the title fight may go to Britain, if Swick wins the UFC will go to Canada. Either way Zuffa goes to the bank big time! And we will all have to hear about “GSP’s dominance” overachieving fighters.
