Three Fighters Miss Weight at UFC 104
By Josh Stein on Oct 24, 2009
For those who missed the news, three fighters missed weigh at the weigh ins for UFC 104 tomorrow. Gleison Tibau came in a pound over and Josh Neer came in a half pound over their contractual weights for the lightweight bout. It’s understandable for Neer, who took the fight as a late replacement for Sean Sherk, and the difference is not bad. Both fighters agreed to keep the fight on.
Anthony Johnson had a more controversial miss, and came in at 176 pounds. This is one of the most disappointing weight misses in the history of the UFC welterweight division, though given Johnson’s size, it’s less surprising. There have been two other notable welterweights to miss their cuts: Joe Riggs (in his title shot against Matt Hughes, which he took on short notice) and Thiago Alves (who’s a similarly gargantuan competitor).
Still, it was an unprofessional display by Johnson, even given reports that he started his training camp at a freakish 220 pounds. Missing weight is not something that can or should be easily forgotten. Hopefully Johnson will put on a redeeming performance.

Idk I’m not too mad at Johnson I mean his weight cut is incredible and he usually makes his weight for fights…I think he’s still going to KTFO Yoshida
I always had a problem with severe weight cuts and in such a case a person who doesn’t make weight should be stripped of the fight. I mean if it is part of the preparation for a fight and you can’t get to the weight then you haven’t done your job. Maybe they should make weight classes different, perhaps 180-200 or something. The HW’s have about a 50 pound weight differential, so that may be the way to go.
