Henderson to Strikeforce: Not All Bad
By Josh Stein on Oct 18, 2009
The fight everyone wants to see from Dan Henderson (25-7, 5-2 UFC, #3/#8 IWMMAR) is the second fight with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (25-4 MMA, 10-0 UFC, #1/#4 IWMMAR), but with Henderson going to Strikeforce, that may never happen.
Still, there are a lot of great potential fights for Henderson under the Strikeforce banner, and bringing in a top ten fighter in two divisions gives Strikeforce a lot of options. Given their work with Dream, a long term bout between Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (13-2-0-1 MMA) might be in the works, or even a bout between Strikeforce lightheavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi (26-2-1 MMA, #7 IWMMAR). Both would be high profile bouts for Henderson and both would be beneficial to the Strikeforce franchise.
Not to mention that there’s always a chance Strikeforce might choose to lend out the two division Pride champion to Dream, giving him the opportunity to fight in Japan, where he was hugely successful during a large stretch of his career.
While there is the loss of some great potential fights in the UFC, where much of the middleweight and lightheavyweight talent is, Dan will remain relevant in Strikeforce, and may continue to advance his top ten positions (at least in the lightheavyweight division) with solid victories against well respected opponents.
