I told you so…Mackens Semerzier Edition!

By Curtis Clontz on Oct 11, 2009

Every now and again I say something that people really question.  They laugh, tell me I am wrong, and remind me of it over and over.  It typically begins in the podcasts with Josh to be honest.  A few that come to mind are that when I said Rampage is not only going to beat Chuck but he is going to KO him, the clinical destruction of Bonnar by Jones, and the most recent that Mackens Semerzier could really beat one of the best in the world in Fabiano.

Not many truly gave Mackens a shot.  He was a huge underdog on many of the major betting sites and bookies.  He was going against a guy who was just a few short fights away from getting his title shot.  On paper Mack wasn’t supposed to win…but that is why they fight!

When the two stepped into the cage at WEC 43 it was truly a lose lose situation for Fabiano.  It happens way too much in the sport.  If you ask Dan Henderson to fight Wanderlei Silva he is going to come in and fight, not roll over and play dead.

In this situation Fabiano was going to lose either way.  If he won, he defeated a WEC freshman that is not a house hold name, if he lost he would become a stepping stone and drop in the rankings.

Welcome to the land of the stepping stone!  Mackens not only showed up to fight, he showed up to shock the world and start his climb through the WEC rankings!

Not many people knew very much about Mack outside of Hampton Roads.  The Virginian regularly trains with the best of the best in the local area and also travels to train with Miguel Torres to sharpen his skills.  One thing that Fabiano could not have anticipated was just how good Mackens is on the ground.

Mack is one of the rare fighters that is at least average everywhere and exceptional on the ground.  As everyone seen last night by his submission of the night, he is pretty good at cinching in the triangle.

Things weren’t bad for Wagnney early, he was even in the position to get the mount after a take down, but in the surprise of the night, once Wagnney couldn’t get the mount he slid into Mack’s guard and right into a deep triangle.  Mack did work!

The picture shows just how beautiful the triangle was (from Sherdog.com)!  Congrats to Mack, we hope to have him for an interview soon.

Fabiano got beat at his own game. That was a nice triangle too!

That was an absolutely phenomenal triangle. Absolutely sick move by Mac.

I was shocked! But after seeing he trained with Torres not so much. Just how do you loose like that? Especially when you get beat at your own game?

Anyone who has trained with Mackens knew that he can beat anyone they put in front of him. Mackens is the real deal and now the world knows it!
