Kimbo vs. Nelson Shatters SpikeTV Records
By Josh Stein on Oct 02, 2009
This really doesn’t surprise me, and shouldn’t surprise anyone. The program was incredibly well marketed, and that shows in the numbers.
The reports appearing this morning assert that the number of household viewers was 5.7 million, with a total of 6.1 million tuning in at some point during the show, which makes it the highest rated program that the UFC has ever broadcast on Spike TV.
In fairness, it just barely beat the broadcast of UFC 75, the UFC and Pride unification bout between Rampage and Dan Henderson, in 2007, which drew 5.9 million. Still, for a cable TV program to post those kind of numbers is really impressive.
Oh, and it means that everyone should definitely expect Kimbo to appear on the Ultimate Fighter Finale’s main card, since his drawing power now has a huge number attached to it.
