Jake Shields vs. Jason Miller Added To November 7th Strikeforce Card
By Bryan Levick on Sep 18, 2009
You can now add Jason Miller vs. Jake Shields to the November 7th Strikeforce card that will air on CBS.
According to MMA Weekly, the bout will be for the Strikeforce middleweight championship that is being relinquished by Cung Le. The title has been in limbo since Le defeated Frank Shamrock in March of 2008.
Le has been off making movies and the original plan was to have Shields fight for the interim title. Apparently Le has accepted another movie role and felt it was in the best interest of the organization to allow the title to be defended on a regular basis.
Miller and Shields are both former welterweights who have made the move to 185lbs. While Miller has been fighting at this weight for some time now, this will be Shields second bout for this weight since dropping down to 170lbs a few years back. He made a surprising re-entry to the middleweight division when he defeated Robbie Lawler via first round submission back in June.
This bout will no doubt play second fiddle to the Fedor Emelianenko-Brett Rogers heavyweight showdown. It was announced yesterday that this card would air live on CBS from 9-11pm on November 7th. No venue has been announced as of this post.
While Shields is a former EliteXC welterweight champion, Miller has kept busy fighting in Japan for the Dream organization. His most recent bout was a rematch with Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza which was for the Dream middleweight championship. The bout was ruled a no contest after Miller landed an accidental albeit damaging head kick to Souza while he was down on the canvas. The first bout took place during the Dream middleweight Grand Prix and saw Souza win by unanimous decision.
There is no love lost between Miller and Shields as the two have traded verbal jabs through the media over the past few weeks. Miller told Cage Potato that he would beat the p**s out of Shields. Not to be out done, Shields posted a response on GracieFighter.com saying that Miller was the one who refused to sign the contract for the two to meet. He also criticized Miller for being a prima donna because of his hit MTV show “Bully Beatdown”, the two can now stop talking and start fighting.

Nice. As if I wasn’t going to watch Fedor/Rogers for free to begin with, now I get to enjoy Mayhem, too!
Sweet. Now to find out where it is going to be and try to score some tickets!
I’m hoping East Coast…like NJ or Philly!
I heard the Sears Center in Chicago.
Brandt,
I think the most recent rumors were saying NJ. If that’s the case…I might have to go visit my parents, and take a few hours for myself!!
