Keith Florian Accuses B.J. Penn Of Cheating

By Bryan Levick on Aug 19, 2009

bjThis time the shoe is on the other foot for UFC lightweight champion, B.J. Penn.

Penn has made wild accusations against Georges St. Pierre ever since he was soundly defeated in their UFC 94 bout in January. He accused GSP of greasing and went so far as to testify in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Lately he has accused GSP of taking steroids.

Let’s see how he likes being on the other side of coin.

In an interview conducted by Fight Hype, Keith Florian, who is the brother of UFC lightweight Kenny Florian, accused B.J. Penn of fighting dirty during his successful defense of his title against Kenny at UFC 101 on August 8th.

Keith who was in Kenny’s corner said that B.J. Penn is known for eye gouging. He brought up B.J.’s two fights with Matt Hughes as well as the two bouts Penn had with current UFC welterweight champion, Georges St. Pierre.

Keith also said that his brother was punched in the back of the head. He went on to add that Kenny would never come out and make these accusations public so he took it upon himself to do so. Keith also went on to say that the 10 months between fights for Kenny played a role in the loss. Kenny has requested to fight every three to four months from here on in.

Florian is looking to fight the best there is and names like Frankie Edgar, Diego Sanchez, Sean Sherk, Clay Guida and Gray Maynard have been talked about. It seems as though Sanchez, who defeated Florian to capture the middleweight contract during the first finale of The Ultimate Fighter will be the next to face Penn sometime later this year.

A rematch between Florian and Sherk would be interesting. Sherk won the reinstated lightweight title at UFC 64 against Florian in a somewhat lopsided unanimous decision victory. Florian was still very early in his career and used that loss as motivation to get back on top. He went on a six fight winning streak defeating the likes of Din Thomas, Joe Stevenson, Joe Lauzon and Roger Huerta.

Apparently Keith is unaware that his brother is notorious for grabbing his opponents shorts, and grabbing the fence.

I think it’s hilarious that other people are accusing BJ of cheating. I was so tired of hearing BJ cry about his loss to GSP and he deserves all of the accusations to be pointed right back at him.

I just hope he doesn’t think that he’ll be able to beat GSP now that he won again in the LW division.

Penn is definitely becoming the “new Liddell” with all the eye poking.

I don’t think Keith is accusing BJ Penn of hitting Kenny in the back of the head since we all saw him hit Kenny in the back of the head numerous times. I don’t think any of the back of the head shots were on purpose though. The ones where Kenny was pressing BJ against the fence would’ve been a point-deduction if it was Brock Lesnar doing them with Moustachio as the ref.

None of that had anything to do with the loss though, BJ was the better man that night.

I just love it that since it was BJ Penn everyone says people should believe that it was intentional cheating or something. If he was hitting him in the back of the head then the ref should’ve warned and then stopped him. But it is funny some things happen in the course of a fight= BJ cheating. GSP gets down like Burt Reynolds in “Stiptease” and everyone should say “aw gee it had no effect on the fight.” As a BJ Penn fan I said he lost to the better fighter against GSP, and the same is true for Kenny.
