Mariusz Pudzianowski to Fight in MMA

By Josh Stein on Aug 07, 2009

If you don’t stay up until one in the morning watching ESPN2, or tape World’s Strongest Man, you probably haven’t heard of Mariusz Pudzianowski (0-0 MMA) , but it’s not a leap to assert that he’s one of the greatest athletes in the world. While weightlifting competitions aren’t necessarily a test of all around athleticism, the power and explosiveness of Pudzianowski is unquestionable.

Mariusz has won the WSM title a record five times, in 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2008, and has put on incredibly impressive displays in every performances.

While, in my humble opinion, there is less to be learned about a fighters potential from a test of strength then, say, a test of combat technical proficiency (like winning a World Championship in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or taking a K-1 tournament), the 6’1, +285lbs Pudzianowski certainly has a great deal of potential.

Whether he can make a regular heavyweight limit remains to be seen, and when he debuts this December in the KSW promotion he will almost certainly fight at his natural, fit weight. While it’s early to call him an interesting test for some of the powerful, athletic heavyweights, if he could make 265 and demonstrates good technical skills, he might make for a nice test for some of the athletic American wrestlers (though Pudzianowski’s background does not include wrestling, and that’s probably going to present a problem).

Wow!, To be completely honest I’ve always wondered what this guy would do in an MMA fight, When I have watched these strongest man shows once in a while 2-3 years ago They all seemed like very nice Swedish-Finnish-Norwegian giants, But without that killer personality, this guy was the one that seemed more angry and more stocky, I bet he ends up smashing some peoples faces, He just looks like a fighter.

I would like to think he will do well, not having any fighting background whatsoever and starting at age 32 is gonna be tough to catch up. And also all those muscles are gonna KILL his air supply, he will have to finish off guys very quick and lasting entire rounds and fights is gonna be a major problem….

I have a gym that trains MMA fighters. I am also a two time Pam Am Brazilan Jiu jitsu bronze metalist. A good trainer can tell in less than a hour if he has any potential. He is not your average strong guy. If he could run an 8 minute mile and learn some submissions, he could be dangerous. It wouldm’t take long to evaluate his potential. And perhaps someone has alreday done that and that is why we will never see him fight.

he has a black belt in karate.

Imagine a black belt in karate in MMA… a 265lbs. Machida? Grappling may be a problem but one could only imagine how hard he would hit, he always seemed to be more athletic then the typical strongman.

Bill and markass, the problem is he’s not a blackbelt in karate. He’s a green belt in kyokushin, which is pretty radically different than Machida karate. Still, with the body kicks, he could be devastating.

He’s going to be pretty tough to take down, just by virtue of his size and center of gravity.

Josh you think Strikeforce brings him in? I mean the guy he fought was a pro-boxer I believe. He’s got name recognition amongst casual fans and mass audience. They are letting Hershel fight after all, and Mariuz seems to have some skill. Give him a year or two and imagine a Fedor vs. Pudzianowski match up? Not saying Fedor still wouldn’t take him, but he wins a few fights and it could be a big draw.

So what? Chuck Liddell was also dancing in this type of programme. Whether it is funny or not, Pudzian makes the profits, and this is the most important for him I think :)

You do realize this guy stacks roids like hamburger patties on a quadruple cheeseburger right? WSM doesn’t test its competitors and the US only tests National Strongman once upon receiving their pro card. This guy wouldn’t stand a chance if he had to be clean. He knows this already that is why I don’t think you’ll be seeing him sign with any organization of merit anytime soon!!!!

Not to mention, Lesnar at least has a strong martial arts background, dont get me wrong I like mariusz, but he would be destroyed by lesnar, Not to mention Mir!
