Where are they now: Ross Pointon
By Curtis Clontz on Jul 18, 2009
It is funny how many people are suddenly hating on British MMA due to Michael “Out for the COUNT” Bisping. Here in America he seems to be hated! I account it to several different factors, but the main one was that he was fighting on Hendo’s turf. That and he has kinda acted like a D’bag of late…
That being siad once upon a time, there was a British fighter that the true American MMA fan would have rooted for. That man’s name is Ross Pointon.
You may not remember him by name, but you do remember him. He was the “other” Brit that fought on the 3rd season of The Ultimate Fighter. You remember, the one who bumped up a weight class without hesitation to fight Bisping. Yea, now you remember.
That type of ambition and push never led Ross to a solid MMA career. Overall his record was 6-10. Over his career he had a big problem with submission, or at least staying out of them. Six of his ten losses were by submission.
Pointon wasn’t a member of TUF until 2006. Prior to that he had a rocky career but was able to get a few wins. His record would have been a lot better had it not been for a horrible stretch of five losses. When he stepped into the TUF house he had a record of 4-6.
While on the show he was defeated by Kendall Grove. He was then given another shot when he returned to fight Michael Bisping. Bisping actually dealt his last loss prior to TUF, so it only made sense. However, Ross was out matched by the tougher Brit and was defeated by submitting due to strikes.
After TUF, Ross was given a chance to prove himself again as he faced Rory Singer in the Ultimate Finale. Again Ross wasn’t able to pull out the win, and lost due to submission. After another UFC loss, this time to Rich Clementi, he was handed his walking papers.
Ross took it all in stride and vowed to become a better fighter. He then took on Abdul Mohamed but lost when Abdul landed a highlight reel Spinning back fist.
Pointon then rebounded with a submission victory of his own by defeating Dean Bray by RNC.
Ross only had two more fights after that point. He lost one because of doctor stoppage and won the other by heel hook.
Now a days Ross is the still in the MMA business. He not only owns but he also runs his very own gym He was supposed to fight last September but no records of that fight were found. We are currently trying to get Ross to join us on an upcoming podcast!

Ross is a good guy and I hope he can bounce back. He’s a character “Ya know what I mean?”
I tried to get him for an interview or join me and Josh on the podcast but all of the contacts I found were no longer valid.
He just loves to fight!! I wondered what happened to him as well. As for Bisping…well…he talked just a bit too much and got KTFO and that is why a lot of people are hating on Bisping….because of his mouth.
I would recommend however if you do get an interview. Some sub titles…lol…Ross has a very very thick accent. War Pointon!
sadly no interview.
if your trying to contact him you could ring his gym i called it once and he actually answered the phone, get ross back into the ufc everyone wants to see it. dana white make it happen!!
