Lavar Johnson Shot
By Josh Stein on Jul 06, 2009
Heavyweight prospect and genuine nice guy Lavar Johnson (12-3 MMA) is reportedly in critical condition after being shot in a drive by whie attending a family reunion and 4th of July celebration in his hometown of Bakersfield, CA.
There have been a lot of reality checks recently, but this shooting hits particularly close to home, as I saw Lavar fight and shook his hand after his incredibly win at Strikeforce’s ShoMMA event in Fresno.
I wish I could say something more eloquent about it, but it doesn’t seem appropriate, and even if it was, I don’t know that I can. It’s always a wakeup when someone you meet is touched by a random act of violence, and Lavar is a great guy, with a great family, and our thoughts are with them during this tough time, as well as with Lavar.
