Swick vs. Kampmann Added to UFC 103
By Josh Stein on Jun 30, 2009

The Dane Kampmann will step in against Swick at UFC 103.
Another top flight bout has been added to the UFC 103 card in Dallas, Texas, as the UFC has announced that Mike Swick (14-2 MMA, 9-1 UFC, #8 IWMMAR) will square off with fellow top welterweight Martin Kampmann (15-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC, #7 IWMMAR).
Both fighters have dropped down from the middleweight division to fight at 170 pounds after tough losses to physically larger fighters. Kampmann’s came at the hands of Nate “The Great” Marquardt (28-8-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC, #3 IWMMAR) and Swick (who initially dropped down from lightheavyweight, where he fought on the first season of the Ultimate Fighter) lost to Yushin Okami (23-4 MMA, 7-1 UFC, #2 IWMMAR). While both losses came at the hands of top five middleweights, since the size advantage played a major role in their defeats, both fighters dropped down to 170 and have looked impressive since then.
Kampmann posted an impressive, split decision win over former WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit (22-5 MMA, 0-1 UFC, #9 IWMMAR). Swick, since dropping to 170, has posted wins over Marcus Davis (16-5 MMA, 8-2 UFC) and previously undefeated Ben Saunders (7-1-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC). It should make for an exciting fight between two legitimate welterweight contenders with solid technical ability and versatility.
