Kingsbury vs. Al-Hassan set for UFC 104
By Josh Stein on Jun 30, 2009
TUF 8 veteran Kyle Kingsbury (7-2-0-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) will return to action after his Unanimous Decision loss at the hands of Tom Lawlor (5-1-0-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in the Staples Center. His opponent, Razak Al-Hassan (7-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) , will also be returning to the cage after a brutal loss to former WEC champion Steve Cantwell (7-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in which Al-Hassan suffered a dislocated elbow when he refused to tap after Cantwell sunk in an armbar.
Al-Hassan’s arm was not going to be fully healed in time to train for his bout with Kingsbury by it’s original date of UFC 102, and Kingsbury decided he’d rather fight Al-Hassan at a later date than have a replacement opponent at UFC 102.
Both fighters need the win if they want to stay in the UFC, because neither was sufficiently impressive in their initial losses to make another loss excusable. This is especially true for Al-Hassan because, though he had a tougher opponent than Kingsbury (Cantwell is far more dangerous than Tom Lawlor), he was seriously injury and made to look like a fighter who doesn’t really understand the sport (which he’s not, but it damn sure looked that way when his arm got bent up, and I’ve attached the GIF below the fold, to refresh your memory).
Anyway, it’ll be an interesting, back against the wall fight for both fighters.

Really…Al-Hassan was not impressive in his first fight? My opinion is he looked good, got caught, and got hurt unfortunately. He was a very game opponent and looked a heck of a lot better than some who are still in the UFC. My opinion only.
He didn’t tap.. which is big respect, seeing this was a debut in ufc and it shows heart, but unfortunate he got injured.
