Diaz vs. Riggs II Set for Strikeforce
By Josh Stein on Jun 29, 2009
Looking for an opportunity to avenge one of his UFC defeats, Nick Diaz (20-7-0-1 MMA, 6-4 UFC) will step back into the cage against Joe Riggs (31-11-0-1 MMA, 4-4 UFC), this time in Strikeforce.
Diaz is coming off of a submission win over well respected middleweight bomber Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith (16-6-0-1 MMA, 1-3 UFC) and Riggs defeated Phil Baroni (13-11 MMA, 2-5 UFC) by decision, both at Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields in St. Louis.
If the fight stays standing, this should be one for the ages, with Diaz an incredible boxer who’s showcased his technical skills on a few recent occassions, and has a well known ability to take a punch, and Riggs, who gets respect as a seriously heavy handed fighter. Diaz will be the favorite, though he lost the first fight, but however this fight plays out, it will be a war between two exciting boxers, and will appear on an already fantastic card.
The Strikeforce event on August 15th will feature Gina Carano (7-0 MMA) vs. Christiane “Cyborg” Santos (7-1 MMA), Josh Thomson (16-2-0-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC, #8 IWMMAR) vs. Gilbert Melendez (15-2 MMA), as well as Erin Toughill (10-2-1 MMA) and Roger Gracie (2-0 MMA), who do not yet have opponents.
