Patrick Cote to Return in September
By Josh Stein on Jun 02, 2009
After collapsing with an injured knee in the third round of his title bout, Cote has signed a new contract and announced that he will return to the Octagon in September at UFC 103.
Cote (14-5 MMA, 4-5 UFC) has openly stated that he wants a rematch with Anderson Silva, who retained the middleweight title he was defending against the Canadian when Cote busted his knee. Patrick has been said that he thinks he has what it takes to defeat the middleweight champion if they square off again.
Unfortunately, Cote vs. Silva II is a long way off, if it happens at all. Anderson is looking to retire at the expiration of his contract, and is set to fight the winner of Dan Henderson vs. Michael Bisping in his upcoming defense, which will follow his UFC 101 bout against Forrest Griffin.
It’s a little early to be making predictions for Cote’s opponent, but it’ll be interesting to see if the UFC brass chooses to start him off slow to make sure he’s back from the injury or if they’ll throw him right into the mix. Frankly, I’d like to see Cote fight Demian Maia, but that matchup won’t come at UFC 103, as Maia is set to appear at UFC 102 against Nate Marquardt.
