Soukoudjou on Overkill

For those who didn’t see Sokoudjou’s win over Jan Nortje in the opening round of the Dream Superhulk tournament, he got a little out of hand. Unfortunately for Sokoudjou, the strikes get a lot more attention then holding a choke for a bit too long (a la Babalu), and it was just a matter of time before the African Assassin had to issue an apology.
That’s not to minimize the impact of an extended chokeout, but there’s certainly a dramatic element to the strikes. Both should be frowned upon, but the strikes get a good deal of attention.
Sokoudjou took the opportunity to apologize on Inside MMA .
"I got [Nortje] on the ground, just like I thought I would do, and I was pounding and I didn’t want to stop, but I should have stopped."
Sokoudjou will continue on in the Dream 9 superhulk tournament, though all of the superheavyweights, with the exception of Hong Man Choi, have been eliminated.
