I am very skeptical about MMA being legalized here in NY for a number of reasons. One the people prominent in the argument for it are Dana White, Matt Serra, and Matt Hamill. Need I say more. Second they are opposed by a powerful labor organization and boxing promoters amongst other groups. The UFC and MMA supporters need to find a voice or person to get behind that would help convince large numbers of New Yorkers to support the sport. And what they are giving us is not helping. I think while he's from Boston, Kenny Florian should campaign here as should Chuck Liddell from California. Two well educated well spoken athletes in the sport will do more than any New York fighter they are showing or Dana Expletive White who has too much baggage.

I believe Marc also posts on the UG although I may be confusing him with Keith Kizer (oddly) and some other folks who post there. Marc was once opposed to MMA in a certain important state until he was swayed otherwise. While I won't get into detail about what I think happened (because I am glad that the sport is legal in NV), if you give people enough money and force them to actually learn what MMA is all about, they'll forget about their prior beliefs and support the sport. Yay for lobbying and rich casino owners! :) If only my family had the money - I have the heritage, kinda.

Thankfully, PA was smart enough to give the sport a chance. It's been doing pretty well here so far with no Sirb-gates (knock on canvas) to date!

Yeah, Ratner, I forgot that Maryland past regulations in March and I must have missed the Michigan legalization Public Acts 196 and 197. I knew they had Amateur bouts. I'm happy that they've legalized the professional stuff.

I also meant to mention the Ontario factor, though I've discusses that at other points.

Dear Josh, Maryland and Michigan have both approved MMA. There are 37 States that have approved the Sport. Currently MMA approval is in the Legislature In Massachusetts, New York and Wisconsin. South Carolina Legislation is now on the Governor's Desk to be signed. THere are 5 States that don't have Athletic Commissions Maine, Alabama, Alaska, Wyoming and South Dakota. The other states that need to pass Legislation besides the ones I mentioned above are Rhode Island, Vermont, Connecticut and West VIrgina. Hope this clears up and misconceptions. Regards, Marc Ratner
