Andrei Arlovski to fight Brett Rogers in June
By Brandt DeLorenzo on May 19, 2009
The Fight Network is reporting that undefeated Brett Rogers will battle Fedor Emelianenko’s latest victim, Andrei Arlovski, in the upcoming Strikeforce event to be held in early June.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski will step in for injured Strikeforce heavyweight titleholder Alistair Overeem against Team Bison member Brett “The Grim” Rogers at “Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields” on June 6.
While I think Rogers should not be taken lightly, Arlovksi seemed to be winning his bout against technically-undefeated Emelianenko during Affliction: Day of Reckoning. Arlovski was able to force the Russian Sambo fighter into the ropes with a combination of kicks and punches late in the first round and then attempted a flashy flying knee which left him sprawling on the canvas after Emelianenko pulled out a huge right that immediately knocked “The Pitbull” out in mid-air.
Rogers was last seen on April 11th when he stopped a smaller Ron Humphrey during their fight at Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Diaz.
Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields is set to take place on June 6th in St. Louis, Missouri. The event will be live on Showtime.

This is going to be cool. I hope we get to see the winner of this bout take on Overeem for the Strikeforce Heavyweight belt. Arlovski vs. Overeem could be an awesome fight.
Anyway, Rogers vs. Arlovski is what we’re looking at for now, and that’s going to be plenty exciting.
I think Rogers is underrated, but I don’t think he’ll take Arlovski. Still, if it turns into a slugfest, it’d be fun to watch. Also, Rogers is a huge heavyweight, which adds another fun dynamic to the bout.
The only bad part…Arlovski is prone to being knocked out. Rogers has the power to do that. Arlovski is a better striker..but..it only takes one shot and it’s night night time.
I think Rogers is underrated.
Arvloski is a better striker? Are you sure? We really don’t know who’s the better striker until they get in the ring. Arvloski’s striking did not look so great against Tim Sylvia or Fedor.
Needless to say this card sounds GREAT!!

He was clearly posterized by a better striker who was not trained by popular boxing coach Freddie Roach who happened to feel Emelianenko (30+ wins, undefeated) got lucky.
I think folks should let go of the “Arvloski seemed to be” or was winning until he got caught point.
Freddie Roach is an idiot when it comes to MMA striking and Arlovski needs to get away from him now! This is a guy who does not watch MMA and thinks the ground game is “boring” (he did an interview with Fight! Mag and stated it). Fedor did not get lucky, that is Fedor, and yes Arlovski did pull a dumb move, but that is part of the game. Who’s to say that Arlovski goes for a clinch and Fedor does not pull him down and submit him. I am a huge Arlovski fan, but it seems that instead of getting more well rounded, a guy who is already a good striker has limited his game severely. Personally I think he needs to train more Muay Thai and BJJ.
Griffiths, do you remember how clueless Arlovski (I was misspelling his name?!?) looked on the floor against the super-great Rothwell?? Yeah he really needs to work on his BJJ because the referee saved him from a possible loss.
Freddie is old school without a clue.
