4/19 Warrior Challenge Live Results

By johnnyp on Apr 19, 2009

I’m live at the building in York, PA for the event. Brandt DeLorenzo is shooting photography from the balcony. I’ve made a makeshift press section up there as well so hopefully we can do round-by-round coverage if the Internet connection holds. A very full ballroom for this debut MMA card, probably 500 or more. Looks like all but two of the fights will be amateur contests and fought with 3 two minute rounds. I’ll post the line up below and see you at 2pm for the show.

Joshua Aarons Vs. Brent “Kroh Bar” Kroh

Aaron is 1-3-1 and this is Kroh’s first fight. These are 125 pounders. Amateurs scheduled for 3 two minute rounds. Both guys look young. The ref looks nervous. First legal MMA fight in PA begins.

Round 1: Kroh spent the first round riding Aarons back. probably 10-9 Kroh.

Round 2: Aarons spent most of the round on top of him in full mound. 10-9 Aaron.

Round 3: Again, Aarons was on top and in mount striking for most of the round. Probably his match on the judge’s card. I’ve got 29-28 Aarons.

Scorecard: Judges all score it 29028 for thw winner, Josh Aarons

Ray Eltringham Vs. Ryan Heflin

Both men have 0-0 records. Amateurs scheduled for 3 two minute rounds.

Round 1: Eltringham on top most of the round staying busy with strikes to the ribs.

Rounds 2 & 3: Alot of good stand up that seemed spirited and even. Eltringham was the dominant force on the ground. My guess is he won, maybe 30-27.

Scorecard: Eltringham 30-27, but I’ve also realized from this vantage point that I may have the names backwards. Sorry, I’m nowhere near the action tonight. (This has been corrected)

Timothy Amon Vs. Eric Steppe

Amateurs scheduled for 3 two minute rounds. Amon has no record. Steppe is 2-0.

Round 1:  Steppe came out hard, landed shots, got him to the ground, and won by submission.

James Chappell Vs. Ron “Night Train” White Jr

White Jr. is listed at 2-1. Chappell has no record. Amateur fight.

Round 1: White took down Chappell and worked on top. Chappell quickly turned that into an arm bar submission for the tap out win.

Philip Meck Vs. Kevin Flinchbaugh

Neither man has a listed record. Amateurs scheduled for 3 two minute rounds. Meck is listed at 155 pounds.

Round 1: Kevin F. came out strong, but ended up on his back by the end. A real power struggle and a tough round to call. No big strikes or sub attempts.

Round 2: Long clinches to start. Meck ended up in side control and had an arm bar attempt haulted by the bell. His round.

Round 3:  A tough struggle with both guys gasing at the end. Alot of clinch struggles on the ground. Ended up with Kevin F. in the mount to end the round, but he didn’t do much damage.

Scorecards: two judes had this 28-28 and I couldn’t hear who got the third (a 29-28 scorecard), but the result is a DRAW.

Brett Evans Vs. Justin “Skiz” Scott

Another amateur fight with no listed fight records for either man.

Round 1: Justin Scott was the crowd favorite and didn’t disappoint with a big slam followed a minute later by a arm bar submission.Scott wins.

Justin Krebs Vs. Dustin Keener

Nothing on Keener, but Krebs is listed at 2-3. Amateur fight. Welterweights.

I must apologize for missing this match. We had some technical issues and problems with the computer, so I had to bail on the match to use a new computer. Crowd was really hot for this match that I’m told was a ground battle. It went to a decision.

Score card: 29-28, 29-28, 30-27 for Justin Krebs

Dan Ankers Vs. James Smith

Round 1: Smith had the control on the feet and while taken down twice, reversed to top position both times.

Round 2: Ankers looked like he was getting to Smith with some shots standing. A little ground here that Ankers took top on and Smith worked out of.
Round 3: a real “heart round” for both guys who showed alot. Looked like Smith got the better standing, and almost had a triangle on the ground, so I think he may sneak out with a decision. He had the crowd heavy in his corner.
Scorecard: 29-28 on all three cards for the unanimous decision for James Smith. half the crowd cheered wildly, then a big BOO went up. Tough crowd. Great fight.

Michael Blackwell Vs. Chris Evans

No records but this looks from listed weights to be a 170 welterweight fight.
Round 1: This went to the ground and Blackweel dominated from on top. He landed alot of rib shots no face shots allowed on ground) and was never in danger of a sub.
Round 2: blackwell ends up on top for most of this round to. A real struggle where I’d give him the round, but not like I would in the first round. I’ve got it 20-18 Blackwell going to the third.
Round 3:  Clinch battle to start. They go to the ground where Blackweel ends up in halfuard, and then passes guard. He’ll take this round too. I got it 30-27 Blackwell who muscled out the victory with ground and pound (not to much pund though).
Scorecard: 29-28 Evans, 30-27 Blackwell, 30-27 Blackwell. Blackwell wins, and I’m very curious what match that 29-28 Evans judge was watching.

Andy Widddershiem Vs. Roy Harris

Widddershiem is 1-0. harris is listed at 190 lbs. They’re fighting at Middleweight.

Round 1: Harris is very agressive, swinging for the fences. Widddershiem seemed to nulify him, but the match was all over the place.

Round 2: Harris took down Andy W. twice after Andy landed shots standing. He landed one right at the end, not sure it’s enough to nullify the ground work of Harris though.

Round 3: Back and forth round. It semed to me Andy W. was winning the strikes battle and Harris was winning when it went to the ground. I have no idea what the judges will score this one.

Score Card: 30-27, 29-28, 29-28 all for Andy Widddershiem

Geoffrey Mull Vs. John Flock

Flock is 1-0. This looks to be contested at 185 lbs.

Round 1: They both came out swinging. Flock took Mull down (according to Brandt) and that was about it. A feeling out process, we’ll say.

Round 2: Mull drilled Flock and knocked him down. Flock recovered to be on top in his guard. Round ended with them standing and trading.

Round 3: Flock had a triangle on Mull at  one point pretty good, but Mull slipped out. Later Mull landed some good standing punches. They finished exhausted on the ground in a heap.

Scorecard: 29-28 Flock, 29-28 Mull, 29-28 Flock. Flock wins and the crowd boos the decision bad.

Keith McDonald Vs. Duane Bastress

McDonald is 2-1 and his opponent has no record. I’d imagine this will be at 185 lbs. given the listed weights (walk around at weight). Nope,  it’s Light Heavy. Sorry.

Round 1: Bastress is a local favorite. he didn’t disapoint with a take down hard early, and then reversing position later to ground and pound from on top. His round.

Round 2:Bastress dominated with a takedown, got mount, was striking well from on top, got his back, and finally sunk in a choke. Duane Bastress looks good and wins.

Mike Oberdick Vs. Lewis “the beast” Rumsey

Oberdick is listed at 1-0. Rumsey is a vet by this card’s standards at 6-3. This looks to be a Light Heavyweight match up.

Round 1: the crowd loved Oberdick, so he’s probably a local. Very tactical ground battle that went back and forth. Oberdick got off the ground from underneith at the end of the round.

Round 2: Rumsey spent the round on top with few strikes, but probably won the round.

Round 3: Oberdick got his back, then mount, but was reversed and spent the rest of the round on defense. to close to call this one, but I can see Oberdick getting the home town decision.

Scorecard: 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 all for Lewis Rumsey.

Josh Kessler Vs. Jonathan Weirich

Weirich is 0-1. No record for Kessler. Match looks to be a 205. Amatuer, like all but the two main events.

Round 1: Kessler dominated on the ground and was striking the heck out of Weirich. Had this been pro he would have destroyed him. As it was he was working towards a Kimura when the bell sounded.

Round 2: Kessler gets side mount almost right away. Kessler continues the strikes to the body. He was working towards a choke when the bell sounded. dominant perforance so far from Kessler.

Round 3: Kessler came out swinging and conecting. the ref stopped it pretty quick before to much punishment could be delivered. Kessler wins 8 seconds into round 3.
Ty Krebs Vs. Drew Gensimore

No records. These guys could be heaveyweights given the walk around weight. I’ll try and find out.

This was exciting for about a minute, and then Krebs nose was bleeding a small amount. Perhaps it’s a rule involving amatuer fighting, but they stopped it. Drew Gensimore wins.
William Childs Vs. Justin Haas

One of two pro fights on tonights card. Childs is 2-0 and listed at 140 lbs. Haas is 1-0.

Round 1: Haas had a short shining moment on the ground, and almost got a arm bar from the bottom, before he was knee bared by your winner, William Childs.

and the final match of the night (I can barely see straight)….
Rob Guarino Vs. Biff Walizer

Guarino is 1-0 hailing from the Rhino Fight Team. Walizer is 2-3. Both are listed at 155 lbs.

Round 1: Walizer engaged on the feet, and went to the ground w/ 15-20 hammer fists. It was his round from start to finish.

Round 2: Guarino seemed to be able to win what few standing exchanges he could get into, but much 0f the round was Biff grabbing a head lock and sending it to the ground. He controled the ground.

Round 3: Walizer spent the the round on top of Guarino in a head lock lightly punching his head. When the ref ordered a stand up Guarino passed out after standing TKO stoggage win for Walizer.
