MMAOpinion Exclusive: Mike Swick Interview

By Curtis Clontz on Mar 30, 2009

mma_i_swick2_580

Mike Swick is a true veteran of the UFC.  He was another one of the superstars of the original season of TUF and since that time he has been on one of the best streaks in the UFC.  Mike is an impressive 8-1 in the UFC and his only loss was a tough decision loss to Yushin Okami.  He will step up to fight Ben Saunders at UFC 99 in Germany.  Mike recently started his very own website and it is one of the better fighter sites that can be found.  He allowed us to pick his brain a little bit on all things Swick.  Make sure you head over to Mikeswick.com and say hello.  Rumor is the site gives you some sort of super powers…

CC:  Thanks for the chance to pick your brain.  How are things going?

MS:  Really good, thank you!

CC:  How is training?

MS: Good!

CC:  The UFC’s Website does not have UFC 99 up and going yet, are you officially going to be taking on Ben  Saunders in Germany?

MS: Yes that is the plan.

CC:   How are you preparing for this fight?  Is there anything you hope to have in your bag of tricks that isn’t textbook Mike Swick?

MS: We always train the same. Depending on the opponent, we will make
subtle changes, but there is no short cut for hard work.
CC:  How do you feel you match up with Ben?

MS: Really good. I think it will be an exciting fights and good for
the German fans.

CC:  Not looking past Ben, but what do you hope to accomplish in 09?

MS: I am just focused in fighting Ben at the moment.

CC:   What will it take for you to get a title shot?

MS: I would guess a couple more exciting wins.

CC:   This fight is rumored to be taking place in Germany, what are your thoughts about fighting over seas?  How does the atmosphere differ from fighting on American Soil?

MS: I am very excited. I love to travel and I have never been to
Germany before.

CC:  Tell us about your training in Thailand, did you really catch a tiger by the tail?

MS: I caught 2!
CC:  To date you have fought in some great places, what was your favorite?  Being that you are from CA, I would think the Staples Center would be incredible.

MS: All of the were significant in their own ways. Staples center was
definitely huge! It is also very cool to say I fought in the 02 Arena
in England as well. Aside from the venues, I love fighting in Vegas.
It is the perfect atmosphere for pre-fight. Everything is open late,
and always something to do to get your mind of the fight and relax.

CC:  You were once on a USA vs. Canada fight card, as well as TUF.  What do you think about this season’s USA vs. UK?

MS: I like the idea. I think it will be interesting!
CC:  Will we ever see you coach on TUF?

MS: I hope so! That would be fun!

CC:   So Mike, Tell us about your brand new website?

MS:  We just re-launched MikeSwick.com this past weekend. I brought in
Booeep to re-make and market my site and they did a fantastic job. We
accumulated over 1000 photos, videos and articles for the site. In the
last 3 days(first 3 since re-launching) we have had visitors from 31
different Countries. Its really exciting!

CC:  What is the ultimate goal of the site?

MS: Just to be user friendly and as clean as possible. I want people
to be able to go on there and find whatever they are looking for with
ease.

CC:  I understand that fans can join the site, what features are available for the fan once they are a member?

MS: They will be in the know! Full updates on everything I do as well
as opportunities. I give back to the fans as much as I can so we are
always doing contests and promotions. There are rumors that signing up
gives you super powers as well but I cannot confirm nor deny that!
CC:  On the site, fans can see pictures of you with tigers, elephants, snakes, sharks and many other things.  This alone is worth a look at the site, but what else can be found at Mikeswick.com?

MS: My brand new highlight video that TSM made for me. Its very
professional. They did an amazing job on it!

CC:  Is there anyone you would like to thank?

MS: I would like to thank all the fans for their continued support! I
hope you guys enjoy the site!
CC:   Mike from all of is at MMAOpinion.com we hope your site does very well.  We wish you nothing but the best in your next fight and hope to hear from you again.
