MMAWeekly just broke the news that Wanderlei Silva and Rich Franklin will be meeting at UFC 99. Since Wanderlei and Franklin are capable of fighting in both the middleweight and lightheavyweight divisions, there has been speculation of a fight at a 195 pound catch-weight, but it could easily happen at 185 or 205.
It would be strange to see a fight like this occurr outside of a division, but Franklin seems set on staying at 205 and Wanderlei is looking to drop to 185, so if they can’t make an agreement on one division or another, the catch weight makes sense.
Both are excellent fighters, and are always exciting. Win or lose, Wanderlei is fun to watch, and Franklin is a warrior, who knows how to formulate a game plan. I only wonder if Wanderlei will look to lose the clinch, but however they choose to fight, it’ll be awesome. There’ll certainly be a lot to talk about with this matchup.
