Comedy or Train Wreck? Jose Canseco fights to draw
By Curtis Clontz on Jan 27, 2009
Jose Canseco being described as the “greatest pure athlete to ever play the game of baseball,” isn’t necessarily fitting. Canseco has often times been the joke of the MLB, but also been referred as THE steroid expert. The former slugger is back in the ring trying his quick hands in boxing. In his first trial of celebrity boxing he suffered an embarrassing loss to Vai Sikahema. For this boxing match he took on former Partidge Danny Bonaduce. This time he faired better but seemed to outmatch his smaller opponent. Jose is 6’4 and towered over his opponent who is only 5’6. A fan in the stands said that the fight seemed more like a train wreck than an actual fight.
The 3 round fight ended in a draw. In an ironic twist, many of the 1,500 paying fans were seen leaving the arena prior to the final decision. A train wreck is the perfect comparison for such a clown act. Canseco admits he took the fight because he is in need of money. The once loved Bash Brother has told others that he has squandered over 45 million dollars throughout his roller coaster career.
This was not the only comical part of the night (outside looking in). The event started a full hour later than advertised. At the completion of one fight, the score cards were wrong and the wrong winner was announced. Not to mention the guest referee of the night was Vince Papali, the Eagles player made famous in the movie Invincible.
