A closer look at the WAMMA championship belt

By musiclover on Jan 24, 2009

Fedor Emelianenko is the inaugural Worlds Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts (WAMMA) heavyweight champion, and with that honor comes the first belt.

The belt costs $4,000 to manufacture, and a fighter receives a new belt each time they win and/or defend their championship.

The centerpiece on the belt is the WAMMA logo, with four smaller side pieces — two on each side — and a W with “ONE BELT, ONE KING” written on it.  The belt is heavier than it looks, and Emelianenko even was surprised by how heavy it is.

When I spoke with Andrei Arlovski, an obvious underdog, he simply told WAMMA officials “to have his belt shined and ready” for him after his victory tonight.

I can’t help but laugh every time they say “Undisputed”. Just because they keep saying it doesn’t mean people are going to believe it.

Well, there are two types of fans…UFC fans and MMA fans. MMA fans can probably agree that Fedor is one of the best in the world while UFC fans will think that Brock Lesnar is god.

I’d rather have the UFC join WAMMA to allow for a true champion, but Dana’s big bald head won’t let that happen. So for now, the winner of this fight is the true heavyweight champ for now.

Count me in as an MMA fan. Cause at least that would explain why I waste so much time checking all the MMA websites so that I can keep up with the MMA scene worldwide.

Why should the UFC join WAMMA? UFC has been around way longer than WAMMA. UFC didn’t ask for WAMMA. The UFC has no obligation to join WAMMA. To hold it against the UFC for not wanting to join something they didn’t ask for is ridiculous in my opinion.

Besides I don’t think any one belt will ever be able to be called an “Undisputed” belt. Just for the simple fact there isn’t a uniform set of rules worldwide. I got no problem with accepting every organizations belt is just that. That organizations champion.

    Ugly, butt ugly!
It looks like a hubcap, a very heavy hubcap apparently.
And how can you take anything called “wamma” seriously? Might as well have called it flurp or scooby.

Well there aren’t many good acronyms that you can use with “MMA”…you could have AMMA, NAMMA, MMAA, etc…
