Breakdown UFC 93: Alan Belcher vs. Denis Kang

By Curtis Clontz on Jan 14, 2009

We are one step closer to the main event and the next fight we will discuss will be the Alan Belcher vs. Denis Kang fight. Kang is a popular fighter over seas and he desperately wants to step into the octagon with a head-turning performance against Belcher. Belcher will be trying to do the opposite and play spoiler on Kang’s welcome party.

Alan Belcher is fresh of off a decision victory over TUF superstar Ed Herman. He will be looking to prove that his skills are UFC worthy against someone that he looks up to in Kang. Belcher’s record is solid at 13-5 and he also has an impressive MMA game that is very well rounded. He can kick you in the face or hit you with a Japanese Pajama Pants Toe Lock. In some ways Belcher is being thrown to the wolves in a sense and could be just a guy for Kang to get a UFC warm up with. That didn’t work out to well with Cro Cop against Gonzaga and if Kang is under prepared he could suffer the same type of loss (figuratively).

Denis Kang is the next guy to try his hand in the UFC. He calls the best gym in the world (ATT) home and has an impressive 31-10-1 record. The Canadian at one time had an impressive 21 fights without a loss (had 1 draw, 1 NC). In a 185 pound division that is dominated by the best fighter in the world (P4P of course), Kang could offer some depth and a possible challenge. His ultimate goal is that title, but if he over looks the likes Belcher, Cote, or Lutter he could suffer a loss on the way to the title shot.

As much as I don’t want to say that his is merely a warm up fight, I would be lying if I said it wasn’t. Kang is a better overall fighter and should have minimal problems with Belcher. His submission and TKO victories are almost even, and he could be better in every aspect of the fight game. If he is properly prepared and I am sure he will be, then he will not have any problems disposing of Belcher. Kang by ref stoppage in round 1.
