Tom Atencio dispells the Affliction ticket sales rumor

By Brandt DeLorenzo on Jan 12, 2009

Tom Atencio took the time to head over to the Mixed Martials Arts UG Forum to talk Affliction ticket sales. Apparently there are rumors on the web that Affliction can barely sell 2,000 seats for the upcoming Affliction: Day of Reckoning event. Here’s what the owner of Affliction had to say:

Just wanted to come on here and respond to all the rumors going around that we have only sold 1200-1500 seats. First of all i have no idea where this information is coming from, but it could’nt be farther from the truth. In reality we are opening up more seating to accomodate the demand for tickets. This event is stacked from top to bottom, and i personally cant wait to see every fight! For those of you that can’t make it out to the event be sure to watch the main card live on pay PPV as well as the complete undercard for free on HDNET.

THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT!
Tom Atencio Affliction Entertainment Group

Atencio has been known to talk up some of his numbers so I’m still a little sketpical. His last event was said to have sold over 100,000 pay-per-view buys when a realistic PPV number of 70,000 came back from other reliable sources. So what’s the truth? We’ll find out after January 24th, won’t we?

The information is coming from you. You were asked at the press conferance if the tickest sales were crummy and instead of saying no, you refused to answer. People can do the math when somebody refuses to answer an embarrasing question.

Haha, good point. Atencio is a nice guy…too nice. He needs to take some classes from Dana and learn to lie through his teeth and smile sometimes.

Hey, to all who hate this great upcoming MMA event. It is an event to watch worthfully. MMA is not limited to UFC.

Mattio, he refused to answer the questions because ticket sales figures are never released before an event, and reporters should know better than to assume that means their bad.

By the way, I heard the ticket sales figure tonight at dinner. It’s not bad, but, like Atencio, I won’t give you the sales figure, because those things always get reported after the event.
