UFC 93, 94, 95, 96, and 97 fight cards and thoughts

By Brandt DeLorenzo on Jan 07, 2009

The UFC has been lining up fights for the next five events all across the country, Canada, and Ireland. Although it looks like UFC 94 could be hard to beat, stranger things have happened in MMA. Here’s a look at the upcoming UFC events from UFC 93 to UFC 97 as they stand today.

UFC 93 is set to take place in Dublin, Ireland on January 17th with the headlining fight between Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson. Here’s the entire card.

UFC 93
Dan Henderson vs. Rich Franklin
Mark Coleman vs. Mauricio Rua
Marcus Davis vs. Chris Lytle
Alan Belcher vs. Denis Kang
Jeremy Horn vs. Rousimar Palhares
Dennis Siver vs. Nate Mohr
Eric Schafer vs. Antonio Mendes
Thomas Egan vs. John Hathaway
Ivan Serati vs. Tomasz Drwal
Alexandre Barros vs. Martin Kampmann

UFC 94 will be happening on January 31st in Las Vegas and features a title fight between current welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre and lightweight champ BJ Penn for the welterweight belt.

UFC 94
Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn
Lyoto Machida vs. Thiago Silva
Stephan Bonnar vs. Jon Jones
Nate Diaz vs. Clay Guida
Karo Parisyan vs. Dong Hyun Kim
Jon Fitch vs. Akihiro Gono
Manny Gamburyan vs. Thiago Tavares
Chris Wilson vs. John Howard
Jake O’Brien vs. Christian Wellisch
Matt Arroyo vs. Daniel Cramer

UFC 95 won’t have the same drawing power as the UFC’s previous event, but the headlining fight between Diego Sanchez and Joe Stevenson should be an exciting bout.

UFC 95
Diego Sanchez vs. Joe Stevenson
Rory Markham vs. Dan Hardy
Josh Koscheck vs Paulo Thiago
Nate Marquardt vs. Wilson Gouveia
Demian Maia vs. Chael Sonnen
Junior dos Santos vs. Stefan Struve
Troy Mandaloniz vs. Paul Kelly
Shannon Gugerty vs. Jeff Lawson
Justin Buchholz vs. Terry Etim

The UFC is returning to Ohio for UFC 96 and the card has been slowly filling up. Here’s who we got so far.

UFC 96

Shane Carwin vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
Gray Maynard vs. Jim Miller
Dustin Hazelett vs. Ben Saunders
Brandon Vera vs. Mike Patt
Kendall Grove vs. Jason Day
Aaron Riley vs. Shane Nelson
David Bielkheden vs. Nathaniel Crea

UFC 97 is supposedly heading back to Montreal for a night of two title fights. There’s still a bit of time, four months to be exact, but the card is shaping up nicely. This event could rival UFC 91 as far as excitement and PPV numbers if Brock Lesnar and Anderson Silva both stay on the card.

UFC 97
Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir[2]
Anderson Silva vs. Thales Leites
Matt Hughes vs. Matt Serra
David Loiseau vs. Ed Herman
Tamdan McCrory vs. Jonathan Goulet

    LOGIC:
IF Brock Lesnar is on the UFC 97 card

THEN Ed Soares should make sure Anderson Silva defends his 185 belt against Thales Leites.

Why? He gets to put on a performance, maybe a special BJJ performance, because he will get taken down. Another TKO-submission from his back would be really cool. Or he can possibly pull off a crazy highlight reel worthy KO or TKO.

At this point, I don’t think Anderson can lose. But I think any fighter should take advantage of being on the same card as Brock Lesnar. The numbers don’t lie.

YO! What’s up with Travis Fulton? Jeremy Horn gets love but Fulton is not offered fights in the UFC? In 2008 alone he fought 6 times, and twice in one month! They need to do a documentary on this guy.

Leites certainly has a better shot than Cote ever dreamed of having and I’m hoping this fight goes to the ground quickly. We need someone to beat him one of these days because that division needs a shakeup.

IF you look at the 87 card, I think the drawing power of Lesnar and the possible Serra/Hughes fight, which could be Hughes last fight before retirement, should mean the Leites/Silva fight happens at 86 because 86 is obviously lacking a main event at the moment.

    97 and 96, sorry.

Yeah, I was going to ask if you were still stuck in 2008. :)

That’s certainly a feasible plan for the UFC if nobody else big shows up as a fight on the 96 card.

Vee, Travis Fulton has fought in the UFC (UFC 20 and 21). I’d love to see him fight in the UFC, but I don’t think he wants to sign an exclusive contract. He fought 8 times in 2008 (which is slowing down), but I don’t think he wants to be that restricted by an exclusive contract.

This upcoming weekend is sure to be a weekend of excitement and cheer for UFC and MMA fans. UFC 93 in Dublin will be a fun

fest of MMA cheer right after the holiday season, and with the card expected, should be a nice start to a jam packed 2009 MMA

    year.
