I am tired of the bashing of Nogueira. He was caught offguard. The fact remains that Frank Mir while a good fighter is not the best in the world at heavy weight. There are three fighters better than Mir. #1 Fedor (no one can deny this is the jaugernaut at heavy weight) #2 Brock Lesnar (fancy quick submissions wont save Mir in the re-match next year) #3 Yes i am going to pick another person Mir has beat -0—- Nogueira. I say this because in the rematches of Nog he has learned and overcame. Whatever you do Nog DO NOT RETIRE!!!!!! You will be back on top before you know it. Take it from an amateur fighter who has had to overcome alot just to get back in the ring (Pancration).

He was caught off-guard?? He had both hands up, guarding his grill.

It’s one thing to lose via a 1-2 punch KO. Some TKO’s are set up from several punches, position and strategy, see Evans victory over Griffin.
It’s a completed different thing when you’re in the cage or ring and your opponent knocks you on your butt 3 times. That wasn’t luck, the upper-cuts were timed and positioned perfectly.

I’m fine with the reports about Nogueira coming off of injury. The fact that Dana decided to mention it gives it much validity. However, if you’re striking stance lacks lateral movement and decide to stand directly in front of your opponent . . . chances are, a skilled striker will take advantage of an easy target.

With that said, I think Nog is still better than Mir. UFC 92 doesn’t diminish his record or legacy but Frank Mir and many noted, you can only absorb so much punishment for a limited period of time. And you have to admit, deciding to not engage Noguiera on the floor after the 1st knock down was very smart.
