Eddie Alvarez Confirmed for Extreme Challenge Event
By Brandt DeLorenzo on Dec 22, 2008
MMA Opinion today has confirmed that Eddie Alvarez will still fight on January 23rd at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino on Atlantic City for Monte Cox’s Extreme Challenge promotion. Alvarez also plans to fight Shinya Aoki during the K-1 Premium 2008 Dynamite show on New Years Eve in Saitama, Japan.
Brandt DeLorenzo spoke briefly with Extreme Challenge promoter Greg Swanson this afternoon and confirmed that Alvarez will indeed be fighting just three weeks after his fight with Aoki. Asked if he was nervous about Alvarez being injured, Swanson stated that his promotion knew they were taking a calculated risk and were fairly confident that Aoki would not injure Alvarez since he is mainly a submission artist.
This is great news for East Coast MMA fans who enjoy other NJ promotions like Lou Neglia’s Ring of Combat which is also held at the Tropicana showroom. The Extreme Challenge event, like Ring of Combat, will also use a cage in the showroom. More details about tickets and fight information can be found at the Extreme Challenge website.
