Eddie Alvarez is Fighting…Twice in 23 Days?
By Brandt DeLorenzo on Dec 02, 2008
According to two separate reports, Eddie Alvarez is fighting twice in 23 days…or is he? According to word of mouth during the Ring of Combat 22 event held on November 21st at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino, Alvarez was slated to fight at the Extreme Challenge event on January 23rd also to be held in Atlantic City. There were many other reports that confirmed his news. But, there’s also some bad news for us East Coast MMA fans.
According to Sherdog:
Eddie Alvarez and Shinya Aoki, two of the world’s top four lightweights, may fight one another at K-1 “Premium 2008 Dynamite” on Dec. 31 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. Monte Cox, who manages Alvarez, confirmed the news to Sherdog.com on Monday.
Personally, I’d like to see Alvarez fight in NJ so I can personally cover the event and report cageside with photos and commentary, but I can’t see any reason why he wouldn’t want to fight for more recognition and more money in Japan. But then again, it is Japan, so anything goes.

Why can’t he fight twice in a month? Alvarez strikes me as the type who likes to be fighting all the time. Also, I’m assuming that his fight in January is against a relatively easy opponent (?). Given that Shinya is highly unlikely to KO or cut Eddie to a point where he can’t fight, I wouldn’t be surprised if Alvarez manages to make both appointments.
I know he can do it if he wants to, but what if he does get injured? What if NJ refuses to allow him to fight?
