WCF5 Hits New England on Friday
By wookalarman on Nov 10, 2008
Joe Cavallaro’s World Championship Fighting promotion is back for the final time this year for another night of action packed fights serving the Boston area this coming Friday. This promotion gets excellent publicity; its poster is plastered everywhere from local gyms to grocery stores and commuter train advertising.
Dan “The Upgrade” Lauzon makes his return against Justin Hammerstrom and looks to pull off an impressive win before taking on Chris Horodeck at “Affliction: Day of Reckoning” in January.
I will personally be in attendance covering the event for MMA Opinion. I will also have the opportunity of supporting a guy from my camp, Muzaffar Abdurakhmanov, in his bout against local favorite Wayne Harnois. This card is stacked with some of the most notable fighters in the New England area.
Keep an eye on the site for post event coverage, my overall thoughts, impressions, comments, and anything else I might have. This will be quite the busy weekend for me but I should have my post event column up no later than Sunday afternoon.
The full press release on the event and the full fight card availible after the jump.
Boston, MA, Nov. 10 – World Championship Fighting looks to end the 2008 season with a bang with their best fight card ever. Don’t miss your chance to catch the best Mixed Martial Arts action in the North East. See Wilmington’s own John Benoit as he tries to keep his undefeated streak alive in search of his seventh win against the up and coming Bill Jones (3-1) who has tasted defeat only once in his career. Methuen’s own Calvin Kattar will be making his debut for World Championship Fighting against the hard hitting Bobby Dias who fought in one of the best fights ever in New England at WCF 1 last year. Also making his debut will be Greg Rebello who is one of the best light heavyweight prospects in the area. Rebello faces another top prospect in the area in Chris Canale who is a collegiate All-American wrestler looking to make his mark in MMA. In one of the nights featured match-ups UFC veteran Dan “The Upgrade” Lauzon faces Justin “Sledge” Hammerstrom. This is the last WCF event of 2008, so don’t miss it!
World Championship Fighting will also be hosting a Toys For Tots toy drive at the event. The toy drive will take place on November 14th at the World Championship Fighting 5 event in Wilmington, MA in the Shriners Auditorium lobby. The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, non-violent, unwrapped, toys each year and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the Greater Boston community. New unwrapped toys can be donated on the night of fight in the lobby. Monetary donations will also be accepted in the form of check with checks payable to “Toys For Tots of MA.”
