WEC 36 Weigh-In: Disappointment
By Josh Stein on Nov 05, 2008
Paulo Filho weighed in at a ridiculous 192 pounds, and event which casts doubt on his training and his mental state. Already emotionally fragile, it’s hard to imagine what Filho is thinking after failing to make weight for the fight which we all know immediately proceeds his UFC debut.
More importantly, a ranking that he had established as the #2 middleweight in the world will now inevitably be called into question. Win or lose, people will wonder if Filho can show the consistency he had before Pride fell.
In other events, Rani Yahya failed to make weight by a pound, but his fight with Yoshihiro Maeda will go forward anyway.
All other fighters made weight. Urijah Faber came in a half-pound under the 145 mark for his title fight, while Matt Brown hit the mark even, which is a good reminder that the bigger fighter doesn’t always weigh more at the weight cut.
Hopefully Yahya’s failure to make weight is not indicative of a serious training malfunction, and a pound usually isn’t. Seven pounds over, though, is not a trivial error.

How many fighters actually showed any consistency after Pride? Who knows what Filho will say if he loses or if he wins. Hopefully the excuses stop.
Well over 5 pounds is crazy!
