Sengoku 6: Preview and Picks
By Josh Stein on Oct 31, 2008
The event set is going to be a fun one. The tournament fights promised are going to be good, and we’re going to see some solid fights between some dangerous fighters, including the relatively unknown phenomenon Muhammad Lawal fighting Fabio Silva.
Lightheavyweight warrior Takanori Gomi should dismiss Sergey Golyaev farely easily, and if the fight goes past the first round it will be because Gomi undertrained. While Gomi’s submission game is notoriously spotty, hopefully he can pull this one out.
Satoru Kitaoka will go to war with Eiji Mitsuoka. While I think that Kitaoka is a good pick, given that Mitsuoka is submittable, it could be a war. If the fight stays standing, Mitsuoka is a solid fighter. I don’t expect it to, and I expect Satoru to win the fight on the ground, probably in round two.
Mizuto Hirota is a massive favorite, and the numbers are the way they are for a reason. I’ve picked him to beat Kazunori Yokota with a TKO in either round one or two, but probably in the second. George Masvidal is in a similar situation and should finish Seung Hwan in the first with strikes.
Kaz Nakamura is a warrior at 185, and I expect him to tap Yuki Sasaki with his judo skills in the first. Siyar Bahadurzada and Jorge Santiago should be the fight of the night, and I expect Santiago to outlast him and finish him late in the second with strikes, but it’ll be exciting.
Joe Doerksen and Little Nog should get the fast taps on Izura Takeuchi and Moise Rimbon and I think that Lawal will probably knock Fabio Silva out. Lawal’s performance against Travis Wiuff was very impressive, and I think that he will be a lot more dangerous in this fight than he was in the last one, though I don’t expect his flamboyance, which I find mildly irritating, to go away.
These guys are warriors and the Japanese events are always entertaining. While it’s certainly not one of the finest events Sengoku has put on, it’s not a bad card, and should offer some good entertainment leading up to the WEC on the fifth and UFC 91 on the fifteenth.

Agree with all, except on the Masvidal.
I think Seung is underrated and will take it.
The odds definitely favor Jorge, and it makes Seung worth betting on. I don’t think he’s nearly as big of an underdog as the numbers indicate.
