"There are many people saying I was disrespecting Cote, but this is absolutely not true. My game plan since the beginning was fight five rounds, inducing him to commit mistakes and capitalize on that during the first three rounds and look for the knockout during the fourth and fifth rounds. It was working, and the biggest proof of that is that I almost didn’t waste any blows. I connected with a couple of good punches and knees, but unfortunately he got hurt and the fight was over. This is not my fault." -Anderson Silva (Source: Sherdog)

Fair enough.

I figured there was something not right about the fight, now knowing that Cote was told he needed surgery just 3 weeks before the fight it all makes sense.

Instead of call the fight and make the Kos-Alves fight the main event, they opted to put an unhealthy Cote against the P4P best fighter in the world...

Anderson Silva was absolutely toying with him.

And if the fight had continued, and the fans witnessed the destruction that was to come, nobody would've complained about the first 2 and a bit rounds.

I feel like Anderson just wanted the fight to last longer because he enjoys being in there so much. He was having the time of his life, and was visibly frustrated and angry when the injury happened.

Cote has nothing for Silva, and I really felt Anderson was waiting for a spectacular finish - just judging by the flying kick and the other unorthodox techniques he used, I think he was looking for an opening to do something real special.

.Cote will be out 6-8 months.
. . . the injury initially occurred some six weeks before Cote's bout with Drew McFedries in January."

"Then three weeks before Silva, he called me from Boston (where he trains with Mark DellaGrotte). He was crying," Patry said. "He said 'Man, I think we have to pull out. My knee, I just busted my knee.'

"So he came back to Montreal. We went to see the specialist. The specialist put the knee back in place and told him: 'Listen, you need that surgery, Patrick, and you need it now.' And Patrick was like 'Man, I have a title shot in three weeks. I can't do that to the UFC. I can't do that to myself, to my big chance. I'm not fighting a grappler, I'm fighting a striker. So can you do something?'

"He got a cortisone shot in his knee and did the fight."

Patry said he believed the knee would hold up because they expected the fight to stay on the feet.

The article offer insights into how Cote's camp viewed the outcome of the fight. Of course it is biased but besides getting outpointed and suffering a cut the article states.

We wanted Anderson basically to be lost in the Octagon and that's what happened. It's easy to say it wasn't the real Anderson Silva. That's what Dana (UFC president Dana White) said. But if you ask Anderson Silva himself, he's like `Man, this guy was giving me headaches."'

"I'm telling you, if they fight again and it's the same kind of fight, Patrick's going to beat him,"

Azeredo, Takase, Chonan already proved he's beatable. Some may argue so did Lutter and Henderson. A fatigued, dehydrated Lutter.

It would be better for Silva to simply stay at 185lbs. The drop from 205 to 185 affected him like it affected Henderson, etc.
