An Update on the Kentucky Boxing/MMA Scandal

By Brandt DeLorenzo on Aug 25, 2008

I helped break the original story about the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority’s revocation of Janine Browning’s fight license on Friday afternoon. Apparently, there’s even more to the story according to an MMA fighter who preferred to remain anonymous.

Current license holder Janine Browning reportedly made claims that her then husband Warren Browning had assisted with supplying the false blood samples to the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority during multiple boxing events beginning August of 2007. Warren Browning was a heavyweight boxer who lost his boxing license due to other legal issues which have yet to be confirmed. Janine Browning’s license was revoked after she notified officials of Warren Browning’s attempts of falsifying the blood samples.

According to the anonymous tipster, the boxers were not actively participating in the scandal and some had already given legitimate blood samples to the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority. Warren Browning had supposedly attempted to take blood samples from a single boxer and pass them as samples from multiple fighters who had yet to submit their blood samples. The authority also thought that Brandon Bell was using fake bloodwork and may have been just trying to bust him fighting for Hitman Promotions. It was not uncommon for MMA fighters to participate in local sanctioned boxing events for extra money.

At the time, fighters who were only making up to $200 per fight ($100 to show and another $100 to win) may have been questioning whether to even show up for a fight when a blood sample could cost them upwards of $250. This is when Browning stepped in to provide fake samples to allow the events to continue without the worry of boxers backing out of fights.

Kentucky holds weekly MMA bouts in which fighters have submitted genuine blood samples. There have been no other reports of Kentucky MMA fighters or promotions being fined or suspended by the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority.

That’s crazy. How would Browning have even been put in the position where he was able to pass off illegitimate samples? Isn’t the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority present when the samples are taken? If not, wouldn’t the samples need to be taken from a legitimate testing facility who most likely wouldn’t allow someone to just walk in with blood and then take their word about who it was from.

These allegations were given to Todd Neal through my soon to be ex wife Janine because I left her for cheating on me.. It was sopposively done on paper. I didn’t get to go to the meeting in Frankfort because Janine went and she has a EPO against me so, I couldn’t be there! She is the promoter and responsible for and did ALL Blood Work allegations on her computer and then blamed me.. I did talk to fighters and she stated that she’d take care of everything! We went through a horrible divorce and she called Todd Neal and gave a sob story and they bit line and sinker.. I’m willing to take a Polograph test showing my innocence, now would she? No, she wouldn’t and if she did, people would see that she’s the liar and would give this a rest.. I know more than Todd Neal the investigator on this matter has given and they suspended me for 1 year and fined $500, while her doing all of this got 3 months! Wow, I’ve done nothing but good for the sport of boxing in Ky. and paid the athletic commission everytime they came! And now try to belittle me on a computer is prettie immature! Especially when you threaten people to write documents on one individual and if not, let on to be that they would never fight again if they didn’t! I’d love to have an investigation on the investigation!!
