MMA Fighter and Two Trainers Suspended in Kentucky

By Brandt DeLorenzo on Aug 22, 2008

Janine Browning of Hitman Promotions reportedly had her fight license revoked following the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority’s finding that 14 fighters who had participated in past boxing and MMA events were supplied with false blood work. The false blood was given to the authority in order to pass tests that were administered over an extended period of time for many boxing and MMA events. Browning’s husband Warren is also part of the promotion, but information regarding his role was not provided at this time.

Brandt DeLorenzo of MMAOpinion.com spoke with Jim Carroll of the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority earlier today. Carroll explained that 11 boxers were each suspended for three months, two boxers were suspended for one year, two trainers were suspended until October 23rd, 2008 and October 23rd of 2009, respectively, and one MMA fighter was suspended until November 12th of this year.

The MMA fighter, Brandon Bell, holds an amateur MMA record of 7-13 along with a professional record of 7-13 according to Angela Robertson, also from the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority. According to the Official Certified MMA Registry, Bell holds a 3-4 amateur record along with a 7-7 professional record, but according to Robertson, Bell has not fought in Australia for King of the Cage. Bell has fought in the recent Warrior Fighting Challenge event where he beat Kwinn Davis via decision after 15 minutes of fighting. You can find more information about Bell’s fights at the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority’s website. His last fight listed on the site is from July 5th, 2008 with the Premier Sports Group event where he defeated via armbar at 2:12 of the first round. You can watch a video of Brandon Bell vs. Bruce Ferguson from Revolution Fight League on April 26, 2008 here.

There’s no word on whether the false tests were supplied to save money or protect fighters who would have otherwise been restricted from fighting in the events. It was not said if opponents of the 14 suspended fighters were notified of the suspensions and the reasons behind them.

The original story was first broke by Jeff “Fabes” Faberman on MMA.tv three days ago. The Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority website can be found here.

This is pretty embarrassing, because the sport is still building its reputation. I honestly, wish we didn’t have to deal with idiots like this, but they seem more or less inevitable.

It’s mostly boxing, so when some ignorant promoter tries to bring up this incident, they can just sit right back down.

I hate it when crap like this happens. Blood test are for the safety of the fighters. If your show can’t make money without pulling this kind of crap then you shouldn’t be putting on shows. Kudos to the KBWA for suspending them.
