Video: Jackson vs. Griffin at UFC 86

By Brandt DeLorenzo on Jul 06, 2008

I know a lot of people didn’t agree with the judges decision to award Forrest Griffin the light heavyweight belt on Saturday night, and I didn’t think he was going to be able to pull it off, but he did.

Here’s the video
.

I scored it:
R1: 10-9 Jackson
R2: 10-8 Griffin
R3: 10-9 Griffin
R4: 10-9 Jackson
R5: 10-9 Griffin

48-46 Griffin. A lot of people seem to be saying that the second round wasn’t a 10-8, but you I can easily see why the judges gave Griffin two points in the around; Jackson didn’t do anything. The final three rounds were a toss up, but I though Griffin did more considering he had damaged Jackson’s leading leg and was able to attack and pull back while Jackson was forced to counter-punch. I will say that Jackson did a great job of staying alive even though he was limited. Thoughts?

Honestly, I thought it could have been scored any number of ways.
Forrest clearly won round two and Jackson round four. The others were up for debate. Jackson rocked Forrest in the first, but Forrest landed some nice kicks that clearly hurt Jackson.

Jackson’s lack of agression likely cost him the bout. Forrest worked harder and, while his strikes may not have been as hard, landed more punches.

In a fight that close, you can’t complain too much. No decision would have been too far off.

And Jackson shouldn’t have let the judges decide this fight for him. We hear a lot of people calling everyone on the internet “TUF Noobs” over this decision, but when you let three state athletic commission officials decide the fate of the fight, all bets are off.

I personally didn’t think Griffin could do it, but after watching the fight, it was evident he knew how to do it.

    I saw it like this:

    R1: 10-9 Jackson
R2: 10-9 Griffin (Seen a lot more dominant rounds not scored 10-8 than this one.)
R3: 10-9 Jackson (Rampage landed more power shots to the head and body.)
    R4: 10-9 Jackson
    R5: 10-9 Griffin

48-47 Rampage. A rematch is in order.
