I agree with Vee that this fight is going to stay standing, because I think that Nog lacks the takedown power to deal with Sylvia (who trains with very good wrestlers) and Sylvia will not be stupid and fall into guard. (he learned not to do that after Frank Mir snapped his arm in half)

That said, I also don't think that this will put Nogueira at #1 in the rankings, especially if he only wins this fight by decision, and definitely not if it's boring. I don't think that his performance in his previous UFC fight justifies a #1 ranking, and it has actually left me questioning whether Nogueira deserves his current ranking (which I'll call, once we take CroCop out of the picture, #2).

I agree, though, that this hype surrounding the Brock Lesnar fight is a crock of sh*t and it is a pain for those of us who've followed the sport long enough to know how unimportant this matchup is. I mean, the wrestling world is full of inferior athletes, and they know that, while Brock Lesnar may not be as bad as the others, he is certainly not on the level as either of the two warriors gracing the main card.

I'm glad you put it out there, props on the piece

I'm interested in seeing what Tim Sylvia does in the first minute of the fight. Who has the courage and strategy to force the action?

I believe this is going to be a stand up fight all the way.

I think the reason that Sylvia vs Nogueira is not being hyped as much because many of Sylvia's past fights were not exciting match-ups. Unfortunately that's due to the styles being displayed and his competitors. Couture's victory over Gonzaga was far more interesting than his 5 round unanimous decision over a physically impaired Sylvia.
