Update - 11/10 @ 2:16PM: Shane is now responding to voices, but may still undergo more surgeries. A blood drive is being held at the Miller-Keystone Blood Center in Reading, PA on November 22nd from 2pm - 5pm.
Update - 11/05 @ 11:38AM: According to FiveOuncesofPain, Shane is still in an induced coma and in critical, yet stable condition. He is breathing on his own and the doctors are hoping to have his leg fitted with a prosthetic limb once he recovers.
Update - 11/04 @ 12:37PM: A family friend met with Shane and reported that he is still in critical, but stable condition. He will need to undergo numerous surgeries.
Update - 11/04 @ 8:39AM: According to his daughter, Shane is undergoing surgery again this morning.
Update - 3:25PM: Shane lost his leg as a result of the accident. Friends are looking to create a fundraiser for him to help offset the cost of the surgery and his hospital stay. He is still in critical condition.
Another Update - 2:42PM: Shane was moved from a hospital in Reading, PA to another hospital in Philadelphia. His surgery was successful and they’re hoping for a successful recovery. We’re keeping Shane in our thoughts as he battles for his life.
Update: MMA Opinion was contacted with good news. Shane is still alive, but in critical condition.
Ex-IFL fighter Shane Ott passed away on Sunday morning due to injuries sustained after crashing his motorcycle. Jon Murphy from The Underground explains the accident and his friendship with Ott:
Not sure how many of you guys knew of Shane. The hardcore guys, East Coast MMA scene people, and some guys on here I know personally and so did Shane.
Just want to take a moment and inform you guys of his passing yesterday. He was in a terrible motorcycle accident early Sunday morning. From what I hear, doc’s did all they could to save him, but his injuries were to severe and he eventually succumb to his injuries.
This is a sad day for me as I got to know Shane quite well. We were training partners, but more importantly, we were friends. Shane has battled many demons in his life. It was evident to those who didn’t even know him just by taking a glance at his tattoos. Dude had ‘HARD LUCK’ tattooed across his knuckles if that makes it anymore evident. Shane was a bad-ass wrestler who was on fire picking up MMA and jiu jitsu. His ability to learn and apply was incredible, but his strength made him all the more fearsome. Strongest person I’ve ever rolled/sparred with, period.
Shane was in a rough period in his life and actually climbing out of it by taking steps back to the gym. Most people on here (that know of Shane) will remember his Haselrig fight, but Shane was truly so much better than that. Prior to organized MMA, Shane had done a lot of street fighting and harnessing a lot of anger and regret in a negative way. When Shane got to our gym, you could see him come alive and be himself for a brief period from 6 to 9 pm Monday thru Friday. He loved to train. Sure, he’d bitch just like the rest of us if we were tired, cranky, but we did it, he did it.
Just wanted to publicly say good bye to a great friend, fighter, and father…
RIP Shane Ott.

I’ve been friends with Shane for a long time through my brother-in-law (Brad Feltenberger) and sister (Leiko Williams) who went to school with him. I was so saddened to hear about this news. I’ve heard so many rumors and was very happy to hear he is still fighting. The man is simply amazing! I am a better person for having known him. Him and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I too was ‘dead’ in a traumatic motorcycle accident 4 1/2 years ago thanks to rumors and mis-information. Thank God for my friends (who knew the real story), my family and my faith. They all worked together for my recovery. I lost a leg back then too - and my life has definitely changed, but I can tell you - it’s fuller and more meaningful now.

I am on the phone with Shanes mother 3 or 4 times in a day and want to let anyone who is wondering that he is doing well. When his mother speaks to him and asks him if he knows its her he nods his head yes!!!! He is fighting and responding to treatments. shane was there when i needed him through our lives since we were in grade school i was there for him thru a few rough times ever since his daughter was born and i will be there for him thru this.

This comment is more to my family than anyone else and the things I will bring up these family members will know who they are and it is many. There has not been a day that has gone by that I have not called to make sure that my cousin is okay. My hopes and prayers have been with him and will continue to be until the day he is able to WALK out of a hospital or rehabilation center. I grew up with Shane and then continued to be his friend as an adult. I was his guinea pig when he first started doing tattoos and I was a friend when he needed an ear. When I laid in a hospital dying of Cancer very few of my family members even called to give me the same respect that I have given. Now, because someone else has posted blogs (that were supposedly written by me) I have been ostracized and fed bullshit about nobody but immediate family being able to see him, and yet I have found out that one of my MANY sisters and someone who is not relation at all has been given permission to see him. I have been repeatedly lied to by people who don’t even have the BALLS to tell me how they THINK it is - they know who they are. I don’t care what is said about me after this because I have made my point and I see no need to EVER revisit this website again. Maybe someday you will do me the courtesy of letting me know how Shane is and maybe even being able to come see him. That’s more than was done for me when I had Cancer, but I have never said anything or had gotten mad at any of you when I laid in a hospital alone because I was quarantined for over a month and my phone never rang just to say hi or that your prayers were with me. I want to thank my wife and Gus for keeping me updated on Shane. I feel so bad that I can not be there for him. I’ve known Shane for along time, actually since we banged heads while playing football many, many yeras ago. I know Shane has grown in many different ways. Someways people don’t like and some ways that people love, the good thing is that that is Shane. I personally think that it takes a very strong mentality to be who you want to be, and Shane does exactly that. He is and always will be who he wants to be. I truely know Shane from childhood and I laugh at people who claim to say “I know Shane, I’m best friends with Shane Ott, Nobody knows Shane like I do, etc” I hope and pray all of those who have been making them statements are truely going to step up to plate for him now. You talk for many years, all of being close to Shane, and now when Shane will need help in many aspects of his life, I pray everyone is there for him. Those that have said those things in truth will be there definitely for Shane, and those that “claimed”, please make sure you help in some way with some aspect of his life. I was told by many people about this site and I read everyones commments. I will continue as I have, to pray for Shane and his family and his true loved ones, but I will especially pray for Shane’s children. I know what thoughts are going through his family’s heads and especially his children heads. I know because I was in the same spot as Shane not to long ago, just not nearly as bad as Shane. My comments for Shane’s kids are to keep all the great thoughts and prayers going in your head, your Dad is strong and will continue to be strong through all of this. For Shane’s family, do the same, continue to be there for each other, as I’m sure you are doing. Trust me on this one, when Shane goes home, that is when Shane will need you the most. I believe Shane is going to pull out of this situtation in a positive way as he always does. The long hard road is going to be when he gets home. I pray that friends will help Shane’s family with the road ahead that Shane is going to conquer. For now, the only thing that I can do is to continue to keep Shane and all of his family in my prayers. God Bless you and your family. I believe in time you will be fine Shane.

Since the day of the accident, I have made it a point to pray once a day, not just for Shane but his children as well. They unfortunately have “ring side” seats to this fight.
I know at least one of his children read this blog and I find it disheartening to see a relative wage a family war at a very sensitive time. All families have their differences in one degree or another. Maybe now is not the time to bring yours to the surface. When his parents heads and hearts stop reeling from this horrific accident and the situation becomes more stable, then maybe you can use this as a bridge to mend your differences. In short, I guess, let no one give his kids one more reason to fret about something.
Christy, I don’t know you personally so when I say this, it is with empathy and sympathy for his children and entire family. I too, happen to have one of those wayward families.
When stories are shared, make them positive ones, his children look up to him.

This is to a praying friend I read what you had to say and let me say this to you… you do not have to be a “God ” person , your beliefs are just that what you are doing is continuing to PRAY and prayer goes a long long way , I am not religious either but had a life changing experience and when I came to hear about prayer it had absolutly nothing to do with religion just a place you can put yourself to continue faith… but what was even more mind boggling is the POWER of prayer it goes a long long way so the more that pray for his recovery, his family both parents and children the more strength it gives to them to keep hope that he will come through this , hell he already is , every second that goes by is yet another second of strength he has …. No matter what we are all here for 1 reason and that is for Shane since we can not tell him in person his family is here and we can share that with them so they can let him know just how many lives he has touched , iregardless of what he did in life he is a HUMAN being and deserves respect and he is as unique as they come , I praise Shane for being JUST WHO HE IS , he had the guts , the balls what ever word you choose to be exactly who he was meant to be , my hats off to him cause many only wish they could , I am not saying that the focus is solely on him his family does need as much as we can offer as far as well wishes and good thoughts and positive attitudes we here can help them as best as we can , but everyone thinks you have to be there in person to show your concern NO some can’t so let it come through here to show them there is a love or say connection we shaer for you all in this time of hardship and I personally CAN NOT say I understand I DON’T but I do know what it is like when you just dont know what is next , it is at those times stop , pause and take a second to be gratful for what you still do have and that is SHANE alive and fighting and to me that is the greatest gift of all . Your family has an uncanny survival mode and that is the power you need to hold on to that will get Shane through this . to Joyce and JR I am Julie Hassler , Joe Hasslers wife we sat many many times at the Wonder drinking over the years and even when I quit drinking I would still come in and see old friends , JR you gave me the biggest hug when I last saw you and smakced Joe in the head GOD I Missed that

As I am only here because my friend Julz sent me info I would like to reply to this so called family friend. If you really paid attention to anything that I said you would be able to see who my prayers are with and it does include the entire family. I also laid over my son after a bicycle accident and my son died in my arms 3 times until they finally medivaced him to Allentown. After a 4 month battle he finally had the strenght to get back to his life. This is no family war. My prayers are for all family. No parent should outlive their child, no child should be parentless and as I said before I will not stop praying until Shane WALKS again, which will be best for parents, siblings and absolutely his children. There WILL come a day that he can again wrap his arms around them!!!!! So please read it again and you will see I grew up with him and I will never give up hope on his recovery. The people to whom I was refering to know who they are and his children know it is NOT them. In no way to disrespect any fathers, when a woman carries a child in her womb it doesn’t matter if that child is 70 they will always be your baby. God, please give Joyce and Jr the strength to get through ALL that they are going through and help them to stay strong enough for the toughest and possibly longest battle of their lives. To his children, stay strong Dad needs lots of support and to his siblings hold on to your strenght in each other and never let it go. Bless you all.

To respond to Julz. I want to let you know that I believe in my God. I don’t believe in church and preaching about God. I think if you believe what is in your heart and have faith, it will happen. Just like Shane, he has always had a strong faith within himself in everything he does. Julz, all I am saying is the only thing that I can do right now for Shane is pray because of my physical condition right now has me very limited. I do wish there was something else I could do to help right now, with any fundraisers and anything of that nature I will most definitely be able to also help Shane and his family with. Julz you are right in what you say about Shane. All I wanted to do was let Shane, his children, and family know that Shane is in my thoughts and prayers. I am most defintely not here to make any waves with anybody on anything, especially on a religious topic. This is about Shane and his family. NOW to praying friend no need to apologize in the least all I was saying is that you do not have to be religious to pray or believe in a GOD to do so , and you are doing something for Shane you are being a concerned friend and thinking of him obviously everyday and that is more than most who do claim to be so close to him , like I stated many times before , I was not close to him like some here I knew him for about 20 years through bars I use to go to and I know his parents for just about the same from the Wonder Inn , and I do not have to be a “close” friend to care about someone who has been through something as tramatic as this , but it does show that you can still have compassion as a human being . I would not want to be in this situation his parents , kids and him himself are , but I would like to know that if it would ever happen that I would have as many concerned for our well being and it goes to show how many we touch through out our lives . Don’t feel bad that you feel that you can not do more when the time comes for you to be there with him and for him you will , how about finding the address to the hospital where you can send a card to him and his family and enclose a letter and express how you feel . But continue to pray cause it will go a long way . Also you have here to get out what you feel and if you don’t feel like lettng that out here then feel free to e mail me and I will listen . I have broad shoulders and a good ear and I do not judge , I believe veryone has the right to express how they feel just as long as it does not hurt anyone directly . Sorry I had a rough day and wanted to get back to say hi , and not to take from the reason we are here but I am on Morhpine and my dosage was upped and I take 2 a day and my second dose is at 2 PM and it made me rather sick , nice how all the side effects are worse than what I am taking the damn shit for in the first place but it does take away pain and with that I also wanted to make sure I was ok for tonight to attend my AA meeting sorta glad I went needed to refresh my spiritual conditioning but the ride home was less than desireable , anyway thank you for the kind words Brad and I am glad I can make you laugh want to fall off your chair in hysterics see me naked NO that was not an invite to start a RUMOR here just hope you pissed your pants laughing at that , hell the way I am going I do not need to laugh to do that and now I know why they call then depends sadder part is I had to give up kagels for that too ……anyway now that I got that off my chest hope you all had a good day and a better night and KEEP PRAYING , has there been any updates ok peeps c u on the flip side

I just spoke to a close/immediate family member of Shane’s and they are extremely grateful,especially his kids, of the outpouring of love and concern everyone has shown. His kid/s read this blog about once a day and it makes them feel better seeing everyone concerned for their dad and knowing that other people ultimately want the same outcome, for Shane to come home and move on with his life.
On the flipside, they are disappointed this blog is being used for social networking . This is not Facebook, MySpace or Craigs List. If you are looking for friends, please take it elsewhere.
Also, Thank You to the guys at Paradise Lost for passing the information on about the Shin-Dig this Sunday at the Kutztown Pub.

I have been checking this sight out everyday since last monday hoping each time to get some better news. Much thanks to the family and close friends for keeping us updated. I am glad to hear that Shane’s condition is getting better. Please keep posting any info on fund raisers. I got the info for the supper in K-town this sun.,and the blood drive on the 22nd. I am spreading the word in the Hamburg area. If there are any flyers for these or any other events please e-mail them to me so I can help get the word out. I just received this link from my husband, thank you. I’m glad to hear there is so much support to help him and his family with the medical bills that will be incurred and any information I get I will pass on to my family and friends, ever little bit helps - keep up the posts! I pray every day for Shane and his family to have the strength and positive outlook to get through this difficult time! I’ve known Shane a long time as well, since High School, and I know how much of a fighter he is and he will get through this. He will need all the support from his family and friends once he is “out of the woods” and back home recovering.

Sorry I have not posted in a few days been really sick with the up dose of my morphine sound ssilly to even say that considering the situation here , anyway I talked to the Fire Co I shoot darts for and I have a personal connection with a popular band from the area and I am checking into doing a benefit for Shane , we are actually looking at booking 2 bands to play one from 7-10 then another from 11-2 I will have further details in about a week or so once I can talk to the bands and see if they are booked I know I have time also to get this together and I was thinking more towards after the holidays cause the medical expenses are going to add up so if we can space out the events that way money will coming in through out his recovery . Ok all have a great night .

Wow - I know there are people out there who’s lives were touched negatively by Shane but this is NOT the time NOR place to be voicing those feelings! I’m guessing their mother never taught them that “if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all”!

OK now that I have composed myself and agree with some of the other responders and that is all said and DONE…Whew…My thoughts are daily with Shane,his children and closer relatives and closer friends. Shane is from what I hear improving little day by day and that is so wonderful to hear. Even though I have my own demons in my own inner circle to deal with , I have not stopped praying for others. I hope Shane makes a full recovery and I am so thrilled to see all the positive things that are being done for him. I am going to try and make some of the events that are going on and do what I can for him both mentally and physically. God Bless Shane !!

thank you Leiko for that and Brandt ^5 but the sad part is that jerk will probably just come in here under YET another ” Annonomous” name cause IT ( cant say it is a true human ) is too damn YELLOW to say who he or she maybe and you know that is how COWARDS operate , anyway like it has been stated here by many ignorance is BLISS … so no matter what we come here to talk about it should be aimed towards the recovery for Shane and to let his family know that we are with them not just for yesterday or today but for al the tomorrows as well and to the “family ” member he is making progress and even if it is not a full recovery it is better than what was expected when he first got there so ALL HOPE and PRAYER is working in his favor , besides you know how strong the determination is with that family so would you think any differently? (headstrong) people dont give up the fight that easily they fight even harder …. and for some having a HARD exterior is not always a bad thing ,most tend to do that to keep peole at bay not out of spite but perhaps to protect their feelings , I know for me I am a bitch when it comes down to feelings plain and simple because I CHOOSE to be , been hurt by many and just can not afford to trust unless I know for damn sure I can trust you and I warn you shit on me once fine shit on me twice run like HELL and that is just how it is . Last I heard from Brad he was told they are seeing improvement and he has opened his eyes and they were bringing him down off his meds but I haven’t heard anything else. If I do I’ll be sure to post.

Oh how cool was that in the Reading Eagle ? AND really awesome that Shane is improving day to day , so they are starting to wwean him off meds? That is ALWAYS a good sign and to be honest this is the time when all need to come together to support him and his family as the awareness will become more available to him , I hope that he does realize that this is worth a fight once he is no longer in the coma type situation and that he got this far dont stop now keep the fight going and who knows I was always told there are reasons we go through what we do and there are lessons in the making so his path took a different road I am sure with his determination and head strong ways he would be a wonderful inspiration to others , it might not have been his plan but it was the big guys plan so bigger and better things must be around the corner . He is truly a miracle and hopefully will continue to be a “teacher” to all out here in the world . The lesson so far is that nothing can take you down unless you let it . Still praying for all his family and hope to get to at least 1 function for him and I am still trying to work on that benefit . Prayers with you all OTT family and that means ALL THE OTTS either thorough marriage , cousin what ever this indirectly effects you all and I am praying that you all keep the faith and stand by his side .

Not sure how many of you guys knew of Shane. The hardcore guys, East Coast MMA scene people, and some guys on here I know personally and so did Shane.
Just want to take a moment and inform you guys of his passing yesterday. He was in a terrible motorcycle accident early Sunday morning. From what I hear, doc’s did all they could to save him, but his injuries were to severe and he eventually succumb to his injuries.
This is a sad day for me as I got to know Shane quite well. We were training partners, but more importantly, we were friends. Shane has battled many demons in his life. It was evident to those who didn’t even know him just by taking a glance at his tattoos. Dude had ‘HARD LUCK’ tattooed across his knuckles if that makes it anymore evident. Shane was a bad-ass wrestler who was on fire picking up MMA and jiu jitsu. His ability to learn and apply was incredible, but his strength made him all the more fearsome. Strongest person I’ve ever rolled/sparred with, period.
Shane was in a rough period in his life and actually climbing out of it by taking steps back to the gym. Most people on here (that know of Shane) will remember his Haselrig fight, but Shane was truly so much better than that. Prior to organized MMA, Shane had done a lot of street fighting and harnessing a lot of anger and regret in a negative way. When Shane got to our gym, you could see him come alive and be himself for a brief period from 6 to 9 pm Monday thru Friday. He loved to train. Sure, he’d bitch just like the rest of us if we were tired, cranky, but we did it, he did it.
Just wanted to publicly say good bye to a great friend, fighter, and father…

Hey everyone any new news I have been talking to family and so far it is still the same progress as before I am sure that it will be tough coming around from all the medicine and stuff too , Just glad that he is coming along …. KUP I know that that was very upseting to us all and I did the same thing got ANGRY and said my piece too but he did make amends to EVERYONE here .But atleast you got that off your chect

shane progress is slow coming. although its unlikely he is aware of much that is going on. but he IS responding to his family. he has a long tough road ahead of him, and his friends and family are working on various fundraisers to help out with the hefty medical bills he’ll have.

I got this additional info re: Shane’s benefit concert from a flyer at the dinner tonight and thought I would pass it on…
Tickets are available for a $30 donation.
It is an all ages show.

We want to thank everyone so much for going out tonight and supporting our dad in Kutztown for the pasta dinner and for everyone who is putting so much work into the show at The Silo. We appreciate everything that everyone is doing and all of the get well wishes for our dad. He is so strong and is fighting everyday, anyone who knows him knows that he won’t give up! He is still in critical condition but has come so far. We love him so much and it is soooo nice to see how many people care about him!

I know you are just a child here but you need to really to calm down , I KNOW this is not my space and for your information I have not been here in over a week and am having problems with someone using my name here since my computer has been hacked into , as for it not being my space this is a PUBLIC forum and no guidelines as to what can be written here , I do not mean to be mean but it is NOT just dedicated to one purpose or then guidelines need to be changed then , THE POINT here is that we ALL care for your dad and WE all are praying for him and the entire family IF you look at all I did write I always always ask is there any improvement and that I am still praying for you all . These is not the time or place for the back and forth that just occured and you are right you should not have responed to a child. She may have over reacted a bit but she is LIVING this right now and has had to see things that no child should ever have to see ANY parent go through. I know you mean well and that is appreciated but I think that she is just being protective of her dad and is dealing with alot. Alexis is a great kid and if you met her under differnet circumstances you would see that, she is hurting right now and with some many stories going around and people talking you need to understand that she has no idea who she can and can’t trust. I think it is great that this has given everyone an outlet to talk because I know that people care and are concered for Shane but like I said before everyone in the family is on edge right now and I hope you understand that. We all appreciate the love, support and well wishes

PS - I’m going to talk to a few MMA gyms in the area to see if we can organize a grappling event for Shane as well. It’s MMA-related and all proceeds can be given directly to the hospital to pay medical expenses.

… once again I APPOLOGIZE so if someone out there would have the courtesy to at least keep me updates on his recovery I would like that cause I will not come back HOWEVER I WILL still work on having some kind of fund raiser for Shane after the holidays and donate the money with out recognition for it .

Brandt please post this then I am done …I see that via e mail my comment was edited and this is to Jill I understand to a degree how upset she is but I would never say anything to hurt any one in your family and I have not said anything so far here to , I will also appologize to you as well . If your daughter needs to talk to someone outside of family she can e mail me , I work with kids with problems not saying she has a problem problem but just to talk and get things out that they might not be able to with family …. I extend that offer to her or you or to anyone from your family or even friends here …. I never meant to take the context of this site and use it for a gossip page just did not like somethings that were said to or about Shane and allowed a part of “old” to let that be known how I felt and thought I was protecting Alexis from that I truly appologize to you all .

To the whole Ott family, I extend my sincere thoughts and prayers to all of you. I as a daughter, sister, and also a mother can’t even begin to imagine the situation that you are all dealing with. These are the times that at not one minute or one day do you take you life and what you have for granted. I check everyday for updates hoping everyday that things get better. I know many people are concerned for Shane’s well being and that many many prayers are with Shane and his family. God Bless you!

Although I didn’t know Shane as well as the rest of you, I knew him enough that everytime I saw him no matter where it was or who we were with he would always take the time to say “hi” to me even if it was only for a second during passing. Shane, just because I don’t know you as much as everyone else doesn’t mean that you are not in my prayers. My brother Jay whom you know from Paradise and I keep each other updated as the news rolls about your condition and we wish nothing for the best for you. You are one of the toughest S.O.B.’s I know and I know you can do this. You have so much love and support around you, you have always been a fighter and we look forward to seeing you soon, until then keep up the good fight!

I just wanted to say that I also am not a close friend of Shane but my husband and I both know him and he is the kind of person that is not exactly forgettable and even though we aren’t great friends we both think very highly of Shane and are hoping the very best for him. I come on here frequently to find out information on how he’s doing and what fundraisers there are. So please keep that information coming and not this other nonsense. I have a 16 year old son who wants to get a tatoo and Shane is the only person I will take him to, so he will just have to wait until he is better so that he can do it. (i’ve never wanted one myself but if Shane will do it maybe I will change my mind) Alexis stay strong and don’t sweat the small stuff (it’s not worth it)
