Busy, Busy, Busy

There’s a lot going on for me this week, so I’ll try and keep you guys posted on stuff.

We’re trying to get a podcast up, and let me apologize to those of you missing them. There have been a lot of things coming up last minute that have kept this from getting done as soon as possible.

The first little update is that I have an interview with Denis Kang coming out soon, hopefully, to talk about his recent contract signing with the UFC and potential future opponents.

I’ll be working with Fightticker.com to cover the UFC’s pre UFC 91 conference call. The contents of that call will be posted exclusively at fightticker, but I’ll link to it from here, so you guys can see

I also have my op-ed coming out in the November issue of Fighters Only Magazine. It’s a great magazine and I’m happy with the article. If you’re in the U.K., it should be out tomorrow. If you’re in the U.S., it’s sold at Barnes and Noble, and should be out later this week.

So that’s what’s going on with me this week. I figured I’d give you guys the update, since most of this stuff isn’t going up on the site. I’ll keep you guys posted.

Chuck Liddell vs. Anderson Silva

Chuck Liddell is fading fast - sliding down the rankings right before our eyes. He has lost his last 3 out of 4 fights and trouble could be brewing in his California home. Anderson Silva on the other hand is on fire! He is the best fighter in the world and seems to be unbeatable. Yet both of these fighters seem to be at a stalemate in their careers. Could a fight between the old face and new face of the UFC be on the horizon?

This fight would be a record breaker. Everyone would order this fight. It would eclipse the record that Lesnar and Couture are sure to set. They both are known for their striking, and they will both be in the UFC’s Hall of Fame one day. One helped put the UFC in the mainstream, while another keeps it their. There are a few reasons this fight should happen but I think like many of the dream match ups that fans want to see, this one will never happen.

Then again we did finally see Chuck vs. Wand, and we are about to see Wand vs. Rampage in the cage. The difference between those fights and this one are astronomic in proportions. First of all Chuck and Anderson fight at different weight classes. Silva is the world’s leader at the 185 pound division, and Chuck is fading into a proving ground type of fighter at 205. The fight could happen at a catch weight such as 200 or something, or they could just schedule it at 205 to suit Chuck since he would be the overwhelming underdog.

Another Update - 2:42PM: Shane was moved from a hospital in Reading, PA to another hospital in Philadelphia. His surgery was successful and they’re hoping for a successful recovery. We’re keeping Shane in our thoughts as he battles for his life.

Update: MMA Opinion was contacted with good news. Shane is still alive, but in critical condition.

Ex-IFL fighter Shane Ott passed away on Sunday morning due to injuries sustained after crashing his motorcycle. Jon Murphy from The Underground explains the accident and his friendship with Ott:

Not sure how many of you guys knew of Shane. The hardcore guys, East Coast MMA scene people, and some guys on here I know personally and so did Shane.

Just want to take a moment and inform you guys of his passing yesterday. He was in a terrible motorcycle accident early Sunday morning. From what I hear, doc’s did all they could to save him, but his injuries were to severe and he eventually succumb to his injuries.

This is a sad day for me as I got to know Shane quite well. We were training partners, but more importantly, we were friends. Shane has battled many demons in his life. It was evident to those who didn’t even know him just by taking a glance at his tattoos. Dude had ‘HARD LUCK’ tattooed across his knuckles if that makes it anymore evident. Shane was a bad-ass wrestler who was on fire picking up MMA and jiu jitsu. His ability to learn and apply was incredible, but his strength made him all the more fearsome. Strongest person I’ve ever rolled/sparred with, period.

Shane was in a rough period in his life and actually climbing out of it by taking steps back to the gym. Most people on here (that know of Shane) will remember his Haselrig fight, but Shane was truly so much better than that. Prior to organized MMA, Shane had done a lot of street fighting and harnessing a lot of anger and regret in a negative way. When Shane got to our gym, you could see him come alive and be himself for a brief period from 6 to 9 pm Monday thru Friday. He loved to train. Sure, he’d bitch just like the rest of us if we were tired, cranky, but we did it, he did it.

Just wanted to publicly say good bye to a great friend, fighter, and father…

RIP Shane Ott.
