Remember that MMA documentary I was talking about a couple weeks ago? Well it looks like Owned Entertainment has officially finished the filming for MMA Legacy, a documentery-type film on MMA. Some taping occurred at IMMAE, a west-coast MMA expo that was held earlier this month while the majority of the filming took place at American Sports University. Here’s a little bit of the official press release. Check out PressWireMedia.com for the rest.
(PressMediaWire) AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 14th, 2008— Owned Entertainment, Inc.
CEO Eric Alfio, on behalf of Owned Entertainment, Inc., announced today that the company has completed filming on a show set in the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) with the working title “MMA Legacy”. Principal photography took place in July of this year and wrapped the first week of August. Owned President James Hergott (All That I Need) directed and executive produced the project along with Jason Chambers (MMA Fighter and host of the History Channel’s “Human Weapon”).
I’m pretty excited to see this film as it captures some talented MMA fighters like Eddie Bravo and Din Thomas while also focusing on a slew of up and coming names that we may soon see in EliteXC or WEC. Check out upcoming MMA Legacy news at Owned Entertainment’s website.

Or so the standardized email in my spam box says. After a few days of avoiding the hassle of filling out an online survey I caved to bring you folks the scoop on what Zuffa wants to know about us fans.
There were the innocent inquires about television service providers and what types of media is preferred. Then they got down to business. First, they feel out how long you’ve been a fan. How often you buy or view their pay-per-view offerings. And if you’ve got enough change to actually take out a second mortgage and buy a ticket to attend a live UFC event.
They get a little more gritty as the questioning progresses. After a few benign queries they bust out the big guns; “What other MMA organizations do you watch”? They run down what seems like a hit list of who to set in their sights to bury. Elite/CBS, Elite/Showtime, Dream, K1 World , IFL and Affliction. To make it seem a little less obvious that they’re searching for potential targets for counter-promoting torpedoes they nonchalantly add in their own properties in Pride and WEC. But the overall sense of what they’re really looking to find in the questioning is quite hard to ignore.
With two mentions each it’s pretty apparent that Pro Elite and K1 are the biggest blips on Zuffa’s radar. And Affliction has to be considered a very big dot as well with recently being crowned the UFC’s very blatant public enemy #1.
What really caught my eye about this question in the survey, was that nestled in a mostly viewership and demographic quiz would be such a almost flagrant warning shot to the other big MMA promotions. Every single one of the largest organizations vying for the same fans as the UFC are mentioned by name and some even multiple times.
This from the company that has in the past specifically ordered their employees never to even simply mention the names of these groups. To actually act as if they don’t exist. They’ve taken things so far in the past that many big MMA stars who just happen to be new to the UFC are often seen as rookies by fans because the UFC propaganda machine erases nearly all notion of any other major promotion other than themselves.
It’s easy to see why Zuffa does this, whether you agree with it or not. But the most important point that comes out of all this is that of the call of the UFC to its competitors. One has to assume anyone who desires to be a player in MMA promoting would have an eye on the UFC. And the UFC most certainly knows this. So my question is does the UFC really “want to hear from YOU!” or does the UFC really want to send a message to everyone else in the MMA business?
