The Johnson fight was absolutely a huge controversy. He clearly got poked in the eye after repeated warnings from the ref on the issue already. They stopped it when it was clear he wasn’t going to be able to continue because of it. Then they actually went to a commercial while they scrambled to decide what to do and ended up awarding a TKO win to Burns, went it should’ve been a total DQ on the fight or at least a DQ win to Johnson on Burns.
I can’t believe no one’s really crying foul very much on this one. If that same occurance had happened in a main event, or with big name fighters, I can’t even begin to image all the fallout that would ensue. It seriously made the Belfort/Couture 1 dibacle look good.
You should seriously track it down if you haven’t seen it, Brandt. It’s mind-bloggling to see the way the officials handled that.

The reason why they awarded the decision to Burns was because the referee initially thought it was a TKO. They do not use a playback so they simply decided to go with that decision. Weird. Anthony Johnson better improve his cardio and develop a plan B, when he’s unable to KO his opponent.
Cain Velasquez, I hope he continues to perform as well as he did on UFN14.
