  2. Brandt DeLorenzo says:

Depressing, huh? Irvin dropped, Silva unloaded and that was it. But does a win over Irvin mean he is ready for real 205 competition?

Now I get to watch Emelianenko vs. Sylvia. Hopefully this is more fun.

  4. Brandt DeLorenzo says:

Anyone think that Couture could last three/five rounds with that kind of explosiveness? That was fast!

  5. Johnny P. says:

I looked over at Brandt after the Fedor win and said, “In my heart of hearts I hope Couture doesn’t take that fight and we just speculate forever.” Fedor looked scary tonight, and as much as Couture will game plan effectively, I fear for him in that fight. I don’t want to remember him like what happened to Sylvia tonight.I want to remember his 2007 pre-October. Just a thought from a fan’s heart perspective.

  6. Amy Robinson says:

I’ve learned over and over never to fear for Randy, whenever he’s completely done he always comes back and dismantles the super-human unbeatable fighter, enter Fedor. I think Randy will beat Fedor. Not finish him, but push him into the 5th, wear him down, and take it on the scorecards.

And in all honesty, Randy is the smartest guy in the sport. He knows the kind of position he’s in, he wouldn’t be giving up practically everything to fight Fedor if he thought there was any remote chance he’d get Sylvia’d.

And you kinda have to take tonight’s fight in context. Really, I think I could probably finish Sylvia with a rear naked choke if I could jump high enough and reach to his neck. It’s really not all that impressive to choke out Tim Sylvia. His grappling and defense is about as complex as my 6 year old nephews, and I’m dead serious when I say that.

Nog, Werdum, then maybe I’d go with scary. To be perfectly honest, this is exactly what anyone with half a clue should’ve expected Fedor to do in this fight, it was most definately my pick for how things would go down. I mean seriously this was just as predictible as Silva/Irvin. It hardly at all shows what a Fedor/Randy fight would be like.

  7. Amy Robinson says:

BTW- Did anyone else not have Affliction on their FSN affiliate? Pittsburgh had a Pirates game on instead.

I was thinking to look into how many affiliates went with something else and wether or not that might’ve end up hurting the PPV buyrate.

  8. Rick says:

    Oh please Amy Robinson,
Do you have a crush on Randy or something. Randy is a great fighter, but be realistic! Tim Sylvia is no slouch and he would eat you for breakfast! Tim gave Randy a good fight in the UFC and Tim was not even in the best of health for that fight. You must be on crack if you don’t think that Fedor would beat Randy after watching him destroy Sylvia. Couture would stand a chance, but the odds are against Couture for sure.

  9. Rick says:

    Rick,

BTW Amy, I don’t know if you saw the Fedor/Sylvia fight or not? Anyway, the fight ended in seconds and in the FIRST Round. Fedor almost knocked Sylvia out with strikes in a matter of seconds, but then Fedor finished with a submission.

  10. Amy Robinson says:

Tim pretty much laid on his back on held on for 3 rounds with Randy. And BTW, I don’t know if you saw the Randy/Sylvia fight or not but Randy almost knocked Sylvia out with 1 punch in a matter of like 1 second.

Like I said, no it’s not impressive to choke out Tim Sylvia. According to his own trainers like Pat Miletich, he doesn’t even make it into the blue belt ranking. If Randy had a little more size on Tim, like Fedor did,and less of his wrestlers mentality, he pretty easily could’ve done the same thing. That being said, Randy is about 20lbs lighter and like 10 years older than Fedor, and completely owned Sylvia for 3 rounds. From a pure fighting standpoint its alot harder to completely control a much bigger and younger opponent for 25 whole minutes than it is to catch someone in one minute.

And if you really equate my analysis to someone being on crack, that just really proves you level of understanding on the issue. I’ve been a well respected fight analyst for over 4 years now and have been nearly perfect in perdicting hotly debated subjects like this. Mostly because I don’t buy into the truckloads of over inflated hype for guys like Fedor, that your stat-spouting smark internet generation fans go around putting over relentlessly.

In almost every case with fighters like Fedor, the masses of sheep fans who have zero experience fighting themselves, and also practically no real grasp on basic fighting concepts and tactics end up being dead wrong. Randy could never come back and beat Sylvia, Liddell could not be beaten, Quinton could not be beaten, Hughes could not beat Penn, and so on and so on.

I can’t begin to tell you how painfully annoying it is to have poser fight guru fans going around mouthing off about unbeatable and that bullshit. When anybody who legitimately knows the first thing about mma can tell you that nobody is unbeatable and everyone has flaws in the game. Fedor has some glaring holes, and Randy Couture is historically and currently the best man in the business to capitalize on this, it is fundamentally what his fighting style is based on.

Fortunately though, all the blissfully ignorant bandwagon fans will get a little more insight into the real fight game in about 4 or 5 months. But, the never-ending saga will countine once again with the unbeatable super-human myth of Anderson Silva. And another year of my life will be wasted listening to all the fanboy zombies going endlessly on and on about him, until a legit HW 205er wrestler muscles and lays on him for 3 rounds and bursts that bubble.

  11. Zach says:

Tim Silva is a b#tch……. I really wouldn’t put him in the top ten. The only thing he has on people is his size….. which Fedor has proven does not matter….especialy after handling that 7′2″ freak of a Korean. Randy on the other hand is a different story if I were going to pick someone to beat Fedor it would be him. Randy is a bad of a match up for Fedor MFing Cyborg you’re going to see….. Fedor has a rock jaw and the only people you see that really give him trouble are wrestlers. Randy could win by closing the distance and dirty boxing and taking him down for 5 rounds. Randy could hold of his submission game too which I think makes Fedor as dangerous as he is. I would love to see this fight, but UFC needs to stop being @ssholes and let Randy go. UFC couldn’t get the fight Randy wanted so they should let him take this fight especially as much as he has done for UFC.

  12. Rick says:

Amy, if Randy could’ve ended that fight with Tim in any way other than a decision I’m sure he would’ve done it. I will agree that any fighter has a chance to come out with the “W” on any night, and that Randy has had much success as the underdog, but he’s got a steep hill to climb in Emelianenko. You may not “buy into the truckloads of over inflated hype for guys like Fedor”, but you seem ready and willing to do just that for Randy.

  13. VEe! says:

Amy, fortunately Anderson Silva and Fedor Emelianenko doesn’t buy into all the unbeatable-best fighter of the world crap. They’re simply great fighters whether they win or lose. And I loved your response. Whether you have predicted fights with success or no matter how many years of fight analysis you have, it does not matter . . . because all fans are keyboard warrior experts that believe the fight hype and read way too much into the marketing bylines. I’m sure there are screams claiming Anderson Silva can dominate Liddell, Couture, Fedor, etc.

Personally I think James Irvin is a real 205lbs competitor. Just like Anderson Silva said himself, “James just got caught, anybody can get caught, I can get caught.” The dude is really humble. The fight was really anticlimatic. We didn’t even get to see Irvin land one punch.

Although Anderson states that his responsibility is to defend the 185 belt, I do think there will be another fight at 205 because if he does beat Cote, (Okami is out with a re-broken left hand), the only main event caliber fights will be against a LHW. I expect to see Silva versus a top LHW at the end of the year or definitely in 2009, and a title defense in the fall.

I still think Fedor would take Randy. Randy has said that if the fight does not happen he will be content with his MMA accomplishments. Whether the fight happens soon, it really doesn’t matter because both fighters record and legacy does all the talking. And for that matter Tim’s record speaks for Tim Sylvia, people can interpret that anyway they want. 26-6.

  14. Rick says:

    Hey Amy Robinson,

I do have Judo, boxing and some BJJ experience. Amy, you said “Really, I think I could probably finish Sylvia with a rear naked choke if I could jump high enough and reach to his neck” hahaa Bullshit…

You’re going to get some much deserved criticism when you talk that BS! Who are you? Why don’t I see you on any of the fight cards??? You should fight some tough guys that are in your weight class LOL!!

HEY, IF IT’S NOT HARD TO CHOKE OUT SYLVIA AND IF AMY ROBINSON CAN CHOKE OUT TIM SYLVIA, THEN WHY DIDN’T COUTURE DO IT TOO???? RANDY IS TALLER THAN FEDOR and he had the opportunity to choke out Sylvia!!

In all seriousness, it’s not hype! I have been an observer and a fan of mma for many years and yes I did see the Randy/Sylvia fight in UFC. Yes, I’ve seen many of Couture’s and Emelianenko’s old fights. I’m a fan of both fighters.

Now, you have begun to give Randy excuses for his performance in the Sylvia fight…ie, Randy is a much older fighter and Fedor is a bigger fighter. BTW you’re either WRONG or EXAGGERATING about the weight difference too:Fedor is only about 10 to 15 pounds heavier than Randy (when in fighting condition). Also, 10 to 15 pounds of weight does not matter as much as skill. In addition, older fighters have more experience and that gives Randy an edge over many fighters when it comes to experience. Randy is great, but he’s not the first “older” fighter to be successful. ie George Foreman (boxing). I agree with you on the stamina though…Randy was breathing very heavily during the Sylvia fight and it was not easy for him.
Don’t forget, SYLVIA was not very healthy for his fight against Randy in the UFC. But, a win is a win and Randy deserves the win against Sylvia.

YOU CAN NOT MAKE EXCUSES. Maybe your excuses for Randy proves that you’re NOT sure that Randy would win against Fedor.

Btw. Alot of those previous fights that you mentioned in the past, I was correct in predicting the winner too! ie Rampage vs Liddell, Penn vs Hughes.

Hey Amy are you cute???? If you are cute, then xoxoxox

  15. Marc says:

Fedor would beat Randy! If you don’t think so, then where have you been for the last 5 years???? Randy is a great fighter, but Fedor is better, simple and plain.

In Pride, Fedor would give some fighters a chance and he would toy with some fighters a little bit, but he didn’t do that with Tim Sylvia. In the words of Rampage Jackson Fedor “whooped that ASS!”

BTW. Amy Robinson, Randy Couture has a wife and you have no chance with him!!!
    HAHAHAHAH!!!

  16. Brandt DeLorenzo says:

Rick aka Marc (your IP address says that you’re the same person), chill out. This isn’t a Sherdog forum. State your case and stop with the Amy bashing as it is very apparent you’re getting personally offended by some of her comments about Couture.

  17. Amy Robinson says:

I’m writing a story on Fedor right now about all the questions he still needs to answer as far as being #1 in the world.

It won’t have anything to do with Couture, as I think some personal feelings towards Randy often cloud people’s judgements about him.

It’ll simply and clearly outline all the reasons and ways Fedor has still yet to be prove that he’s best ever, let alone the current #1 HW fighter. (Which in my eyes is right now a 3 way stagnant tie between Fedor, Randy, and Nog.)

If you look on pretty much every MMA news and editorial site, not a single one has anything questioning Fedor, which is were my overhype tag comes from.

I intend to point out some very legitmate, although not very well liked issues.

And no matter if you disagree or not, I hope to at the very least open up some minds on the subject and ultimately on questioning one’s own personal assesments versus those of the mass press, which is a huge epidemic in today’s world at large and not just in the Mixed Martial Arts community.

  18. Rick says:

    Hey Brant DeLorenzo, chill out.

    Thank you Sherlock Holmes.
Marc is my buddy and traing partner. Next time he will use his onwn IP address… OOOh, we must be bad guys…

  19. Jeremy says:

    Amy,

The Minnesota feed had the Twins game, so we did not get the Affliction fights.

  20. Josh Stein says:

Amy, I can’t believe you need to ask if Fedor needs to solidify his #1 ranking anymore.

Who are they going to put higher than him?

Randy? As Rick pointed out, Randy couldn’t finish Tim (something that both Nog and Fedor showed is clearly possible).

Nog? After Fedor beat him 3 times and he spent 10 minutes getting pounded on by Bit Timmy before he caught that guillotine, I don’t think so.

Fedor’s #1 ranking is solid. There is no challenger to it in the heavyweight world, certainly not after this stoppage.

I don’t really care if Rick and Marc are the same guy or not, tHEy happen to be right about Fedor.

(Editor: No bashing through comments, please)

Fedor has more power than Randy. He has better recovery than Randy. He has better takedowns and better submissions than Randy. Randy Couture is a great fighter, but he knows that this is the toughest matchup in the world for him (that’s part of why he wants it). Any objective statistical and technical analysis should favor Fedor.

Unless you picked Serra beating Georges St. Pierre, Gonzaga beating CroCop and Aurelio beating Gomi, you’re just another person trying to figure the damn thing out.

  21. Amy Robinson says:

Fair enough. I just have a different opinion, based on different factors.

  22. Rick says:

Just for the record, I am the Rick who posted inbetween Zach and VEe! and would prefer not to be confused with the other Rick who is posting.
