I think I’ve heard them all.
Anderson Silva to light heavyweight. MMA being sanctioned in NY. A huge NYE show. More international UFC events. But, there is a rumor that might be pretty interesting if true.
Apparently a “realiable source” has stated Vince McMahon and Dana White are buying the UFC from the Fertitta brothers through the remaining shares of the company. McMahon will not have much input, but instead, he will assist with financing the deal and making this happen. Of course this is just one variant of the rumors being spewed out left and round on the internet.
Sound crazy? It just might be. Or maybe it will just be an announcement that the UFC is finally ready to show off the UFC video game slated to be released in 2009. Whatever it is, It’s certainly a Dana White white and it’s entertainment.
Note to readers: I had to make some late edits as I wrote this last night and it didn’t read very well!

God help us if true…

Note, Dana is renting an office and gathering employees to make the announcement.
UFC.com states that he will be making the anouncement with heavyweight “sensation” Brock Lesnar.
Whether its Anderson Silva fighting Lidell in Madison Square Garden or Atlanta or White and McMahon purchasing the UFC from the Fertitas, I think it will be fine either way.

Vee: White said it had something to do with “changing MMA in the next five years” (not an exact quote) so I’m expecting something company-wide, not with a single fighter or sanctioning MMA (not “UFC”) in one state; NY.
Also, John Philapavage brought up an interesting point that the UFC may become a public company in the near future if they are owned by WWE or McMahon. Buy stock!

Today UFC is announcing more names to the list of toy figurines…(CNBC around 1230)
Tomorrow is the major announcement… Rumors say Dana and Vince McMahon are purchasing the UFC from Zuffa…
No reference, just rumors… Thought you guys would be interested.

I just watched the CNBC show with Dana White and Brock Lesnar. They did infact unvail the line of action figures, but White also shot down some of the rumors that are flowing around…
UFC not to become publically traded…
No deal with Fox…
Mayweather is not signing with the UFC…

The purchase rumor seems to be gaining some steam. I recall that surrounding the Xyience fiasco the Fertittas were wrapped up in a bunch of legal battles. http://fightlinker.com/blog/?p=1588 and http://fightlinker.com/blog/?p=1854
In a nutshell the Fertittas were being named in a lawsuit regarding some fishy money deals with Xyience and the UFC. Perhaps that’s become a big enough pain in the ass that the Fertittas are worried that their association with it will damage their much more lucrative casino enterprises (and quite possibly the UFC- which has been their “baby”). They’ve made a ton of dough so far and could probably get out quite comfortably at this point. The UFC isn’t so big and bloated yet that it is no longer attractive for investors to come on board. Dana’s often talked of his admiration for Vince McMahon and Vince has a track record of getting on board with new investments (ie. XFL). It doesn’t sound entirely unreasonable that this could be the case. If you couple the purchase with Vince’s money and connections in the television and promotion avenues, a TV deal wouldn’t be too hard to believe either.
There’s my conspiracy theory for the day.

If Dana White and Vince McMahon buy the UFC together i quit. With McMahon at the helm you run the risk of seeing drama like in the WWE, and i for one don’t like to see that. I watch the UFC for fights not for drama.
Vee: Chuck Liddell will be fighting in Atlanta, Dana White already said that.

Devon: If the McMahon rumor is true, it wouldn’t be as bad as the WWE. McMahon wouldn’t have say regarding the promotion, instead he would just help bankroll.
Curtis: Still doesn’t mean he isn’t teaming up with McMahon…that’s the only rumor I heard that actually takes the UFC higher. If the announcement is about MMA being sanctioned in New York, I’ll just laugh out loud and write off Dana White as being ridiculous for thinking the entire world cares about NY. Hopefully, for his sake and ours, he does indeed have a huge announcement.

Vee: Sheesh, you’re killin’ me here! The announcement about the toys came today on CNBC. The big announcement has yet to come!

And don’t forget that White denied the Pride rumor until the sale was finalized, so it could be anything he denied on TV today.
