Back to earth for all us dreamers. Here’s a clarification on the widespread story that Couture alleged he’s fight in Oct. ‘08 against Fedor. Courtesy Dave Meltzer at his Wrestling Observer Newsletter Site:
–Just to clarify from last night’s show, Randy Couture never said last night he would be facing Fedor Emelianenko after October. He said he’d like to, but just because he’ll be out of the date of his UFC contract, he still owes them two more fights that he’s not planning on doing. Nothing regarding him fighting again will be decided until the legal proceedings are over, and they are only in their preliminary stages.

Why won’t he just take the fights UFC gives him?

That’s quite the question of 2007. There are/were many reasons. Some had to do with dignity and others had to do with money. Considering that Couture has a successful clothing line and can make a ton of money doing other MMA-related activities, he can afford to tell the largest MMA organization whatever he wants if he feels wronged.

If Couture took the last fights now, it would only prove to the media that the UFC is the ultimate end all place for fighters to be. While up and coming brands get shut out as being being the small productions making it even harder for organizations to build their talent.
