I received an email from Future MMA Stars yesterday and wanted to share it/get the word out about their cause:
‘Tap or Snap 29′ will honor Trevor Carron and Nikko Landeros
I had no idea who Trevor or Nikko are, but I kept reading.
Nov. 3, 2007 at Douglas County Event Center
Shameless promotion of smaller organization. Nothing wrong so far.
UFC Champions show the soft side of the toughest sport in the world.
“I didn’t realize that ground and pound, high kicks, and spinning backfists could show a soft side” says the mass media. Or better yet: “Those crazy guys killing each other in human cockfights don’t have any morals!” That’s better.
Colorado Springs, Colorado - October 26, 2007 — The Douglas County Event Center ill be host to some of the toughest men in the world who also have the softest earts, on Saturday November 3, 2007.
During “Tap or Snap” mixed martial arts event, Matt Serra, the current UFC Welterweight Champion, will be presenting Trevor Carron and Nikko Landeros gifts hat were sent by the reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion, Randy Couture.
Ok, I still have no idea who Trevor and Nikko are or what happened to them, but I see the name Matt Serra and from what I have seen, Serra seems like a cool dude who would do something nice. Also, the name Randy Couture sticks out. Another seemingly good dude as well.
I decided to do some independent research (I sound important) to learn more about Trevor and Nikko. I found this at the Fresno Injury Board:
Tyhler Carron and Nikko Landeros are students at Berthoud High School. The two boys, both 18, were on their school’s wrestling team. On January 15 thery were on their way home in Carron’s Isuzu Trooper, Carron was driving, when their vehicle got a flat tire. Carron pulled over to change the flat, and he and Landeros got out. They went to the back of the car and opened the rear doors to get the jack and other tools. That’s when Michelle Berra, a classmate, drove into the back of Carron’s car, pinning Carron and Landeros between the two vehicles.
Carron and Landeros both lost their legs in the crash.
Both of the young men are also wrestlers for their school. Sad news.
Back to the email.
Trevor and Nikko both lost their legs in a terrible accident in January of this year. Both Trevor and Nikko are fans of MMA and the UFC. Local promoter, Brian Lee, hopes this event will raise significant funds to continue providing the financial support needed for Carron and Landeros.
Oh. Wow.
There will be T-shirts and other merchandise sold of which 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the fund benefitting the young men. Fans, friends and anyone else who desires can also make cash donations in designated areas during the show.
Good deal! So folks, if you live near the area, go help some people out and help promote MMA as a kindler and gentler sport to the mass media. Not only does this help the guys who lost their legs, it also helps the sport gain mainstream support.
